3 out of 5 stars I don't like this one...or do I?   March 26, 2008

There seem to be two main music tracks, one good and one that makes you cringe!
The good one is a sort of rap pop...thing, without words.
The bad one is...eeuurggghhhhhh! It is too bad for words! It's a sort of intense rock piece of rubbish!!! The words (or should I say the 'word') are just repeated over and over again: "kieaa, kieaa, kieaa, kiaee, mastermanteey!"

AARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGHGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Now for the actual game.
Weird and awful and boring.
It is weird because: girls butts stick out like pillows.
It is awful because: you're bike blows up and flips over because you hit a small bump.
It is boring because: it is unoriginal and nothing happens...

It's not an awful game, but it's not good either, definately not worth 19.

5 out of 5 stars Until Motorstorm 2's Tropical Thrills, This Is The Best Racer On PS3.   March 15, 2008

The recently released trailer for Motorstorm 2 made me go back and play the original again. Its easy to forget how much of an impact this game has. Visually the game is incredibly detailed, but the actual racing feels realistic.

Career modes are shunned in favour of pure racing. These are unlocked after completing the previous event. This does create a few sticking points, escpecially around the Level 4 difficulty mark. Every race is a tense affair, where a slight mistake on the final lap could cost the race.
The amount of tracks is limited, but they take a long time to master. Also the different vehicle classes open them up in completely new ways.

Its obvious what needs improving in the sequel, particularly depth and variety. But for pure racing thrills, and an early glimpse of what the PS3 is capable of, Motorstorm is essential.

3 out of 5 stars Amazing graphics and fun to play...until you reach level 3!   March 15, 2008

Here is what happens with this game: the first couple of days I thought it was excellent, the graphics were unbelievable and it was really fun to play. But then the issues begin. First, the tracks start repeating themselves way too much; the concept of the game is that the tracks have different paths you can take, and some work for some vehicles and not others. But the biggest issue with this game is how ridiculous gameplay gets when you reach level 3. While before this point, your opponents would try to make you crash, it was all within reason, and they were still behaving in a way geared towards winning the race. In Level 3, all your opponents will try to make you crash no matter what. I even saw that when I am in third, the racer that is in second will slow down until I get near and try to push me off the track. Absolutely ridiculous! It would have been much better if in order to increase the difficulty they had used trickier tracks, but it seems that this was too much work!

Another problem with this game is that you cannot race against a friend, unless you do it online. I believe that getting a split screen for two players could not have been all that difficult, so I am not sure what they were thinking. On the plus side, the online play is fun though and since the game was bundled with the PS3, there are a lot of opponents online ready to battle. As I mentioned, the graphics are outstanding, and it is fun to see the crashes, with people flying through the air. The fact that the vehicle retains the damage until you destroy it is another big plus. As to gameplay, the way in which the different vehicles react to the commands is very realistic. This provides for a lot of entertainment, since you will have to get proficient at handling bikes, ATVs, buggies, rally cars, mud pluggers, racing trucks and rig trucks. Also, the fact that you will need to figure out which route to take with each of these, adds an element of fun to the action.

I am confident that we will see a MotorStorm 2 game in the near future, and I hope that it addresses the issues that made the first version only an OK game for me, since the potential is definitely there.

4 out of 5 stars Great fun but no split screen!   March 10, 2008

I bought this game recently and found myself playing it for hours when I got home. The over the top crashes, vehicle variety and constant challenge are highlights of this game. The graphics are very good and the soundtrack reflects the essence of the game (slightly frantic and loud).

However, it is disappointing not to have a split screen mode. It would be great to play with a mate in the same room on this game (massive crashes are conducive to multiplayer in the room action). In addition, loading times are a bit crazy particularly on vehicle select screens.

Overall, very good and great to pick up and play.
