4 out of 5 stars Finally took the plunge!   May 26, 2008

After months of deliberating whether to splash out and upgrade my 14" CRT TV, I decided to go for this model which seemed very good value and well reviewed. My hesitation was due to a general disappointment with the picture quality of LCD TVs, and because I don't watch that much TV. However, missing out on 'Gavin and Stacey' on BBC3 prompted me to think about getting freeview access and a better TV.
I was also cautious about ordering via the internet, being a bit of a 'John Lewis' type shopper i.e liking a reputable shop that I can return goods to. But I trusted Amazon and after shopping around, I felt that the price made it worth taking the risk!
Re: Delivery: The TV came within about 3 days, I was not home so went to the depot to collect. This was located quite close to home and work and they took it to the car for me, so no problem. It would be helpful to know in advance where the local collection depot is.
Digital Reception: I knew I'd need a new ariel as my previous picture was snowy and I live in Greenwich in a dip between two transmitters, one of which is not yet geared up for digital. A new digital ariel did not work, so in the end I went for a Sky 'Freesat' dish (a one off payment)which worked out cheaper than having another ENORMOUS ariel fitted. But this would not be a good option if you want a TV in more than one room, as you have to pay for each individual Sky box.
The TV: Well initally everyone on it looked a bit shiney, then I adjusted the colour tone and other settings and I'm pleased enough with the picture.

So all in all I'd recommend it - the 4 stars reflect the fact that I think that the picture quality on these LCD TVs could be improved further.

Oh and now that I have the freeview channels I realise what junk there is on the TV, and it's just repeated over and over again! And I have a red button to see the words on the Eurovison song contest! Looking forward to watching DVDs and films on the bigger screen, glad I went for the 32" rather than 26"

5 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money....   May 26, 2008

I bought this on the strength of the reviews listed here and the Sony brand and I'm delighted I did. The TV was delivered within 36 hours of order - nice one Amazon - and was a doddle to set up. 10 minutes after getting it out of the box it was plugged into the Sky Plus and displaying a fantastic quality picture. The Freeview is a nice extra and again was very easy and intuitive to set-up. The same model is being sold in Tesco for 100 more so it's a bargain as well as a great TV. Don't hesitate - buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Simply the Best   May 25, 2008

This TV is my 3rd HDTV, and it is the best for the price!! I originally had a Vistron 26", but the quality just wasnt good enough, so i upgraded to the Sony 26T3000, but as soon as it arrived, i saw this 32" had been reduced in price to the same price as the 26"!! So i swapped over the TVs, and i have to say, the 26T3000 and the 32S3000 are exactly the same bar the 4" difference and Live colour creation, even the remote and all the menu's are the same!!
So its worth getting the bigger TV!!

The TV looks stunning, Easy to set up, Sony build quality. Excellent freeview reception!

Over all an Amazing TV for the price, and its sony, so its perfect for the PS3, which looks amazing through the HDMI by the way!!

5 out of 5 stars quality at a budget price   May 23, 2008

I brought this Sony after many months off research , its mainly going to be used as my second TV set and mostly SD viewing which most people use. i have seen many LCDs and i use a Sony v3000 for my main TV. SD viewing is excellent i was quite surprised at how good this TV displays pictures from my sky+ box, colours are vibrant and detailed, although you need to play about with the picture settings to get that perfect picture, also haven't noticed any motion blur with fast moving pics which is usually common on LCDS at this price point. My conclusion: this is the best TV at this price point in terms off picture quality and build quality and its all down to that bravia engine which processes the picture so good. The only minor fault i can find is that the blacks good be a little bit better, but I'm being fussy, at this price nothing can touch it, ie the samsungs build quality is poor compared to this. Buy with confidence.

4 out of 5 stars Very good budget buy with some caveats   May 19, 2008

I recently received this TV from Amazon for just a tad over 400. I note most of the other reviews here are universally glowing so I thought I should mention some issues the TV has.

I bought it to both play movies/tv over my LAN via UPnP on a PS3 and of course to play PS3 games. Initially everything looked good. However I noticed in GTA IV that dark areas were impossible to see. And that the loading screen: mostly black with a shimmering load notification in the corner fluctuated in brightness with the load indicator. Which looked horrendous. I thought that the TV was broken.

After fiddling with the settings I turned off the dynamic contrast setting and the game started to look very good indeed. I previously had been playing it on a 32" LG 1080p screen which cost 200+ more than this and have to admit that the bravia is not nearly as good.

That said for the price the quality is acceptable with quite a few settings. Though I would advise turning anything which sounds like a marketing ploy off as these have only had negative effects for me. Sir David Attenborough's "Planet Earth" bluray discs play very well but not as crisp as on the more expensive panel.

The VGA PC input works well for me in (Ubuntu) GNU/Linux though the tv must be set to wide when input from this to avoid the lines at the side (which took me a while to figure out).

Sound is acceptable for a reasonable size room and is an attractive unit. It is also not as slim as many other TVs I have seen and is quite heavy too. That said it is very sturdy compared to some others I have seen. Through the PS3 lower definition video/tv scales quite well on this TV.

Just remember to turn off the dynamic contrast or things might start looking a bit rubbish.
