Excellent TV May 16, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've been wanting an LCD for years and finally took the plunge after coming across this TV on Amazon. I bought this TV about a month ago after having a 26" CRT TV for a few years. Delivery was super quick, only took two days. I was surprised just how big the TV is when I was unpacking it. It looks great. It has countless ports at the back and at the side. I haven't got any high-def equipment yet but I will probably get a PS3 at some point. I do have a Nintendo Wii and I recommend buying a Component Cable for it as the Wii didn't look so good when you're using Scart/Composite. As soon as I bought the cable, the picture looked so much sharper. As soon as you switch the TV on, it'll find all the channels for you automatically and setup the Freeview channels. Only complaint I have is standard-def reception doesn't look so good on a HDTV LCD TV. Some of the freeview channels look blocky when you're sat close up. I've got used to it now and don't notice it so much. I understand though this is probably the case with every LCD TV so it's not specific to this one. Overall, this is one of the best purchases I've ever made. It's an excellent TV at an excellent price.
Why buy an Audi R8 when you can have a Porsche!!! May 15, 2008 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
The quality of TV's like cars is such now that reliability and quality is rarely an issue. There are many great TV's out there and i was torn between Samsung, Toshiba and Sony. Samsung have become one of the front runners with quality and even style and almost seems like a safe choice with regards to value for money. Toshiba although not a blatently obvious choice it is as good as other brands out there. However i chose this Sony. The reason is quite simple. Think about the new Audi R8 (in TV language the Samsung). Its beautifull, reliable and turns heads. However when you see a Porsce Carrera (the Sony), even a slightly older one you automtically think passion, class, quality with a hint of arrogance, and you know its not a one night stand but a long term relationship. My Sony arrive 48 hours after order placement. To set-up took minutes. Spent 10 minutes optimising the settings for personal preference. Its a beautiful matt black which is kind of nice with the amount of gloss out there and sits in the corner of my lounge knowing its the best brand out there without having to show off. Welcome to my Porsche ladies and gentlemen and i am sure it will sit there in my lounge in gentle arrogance for a long time coming.
Sony Bravia - Plug-in & Play!!! May 12, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I debated the "Sony vs Panasonic" decision for some time prior to settling on this purchase, and with a budget of circa 450 wanted to ensure I'd get the best value for money. Both brands are worthy of any wall.
It ended up as a choice between a Panasonic Viera TX32LMD70 (which I was initially considering a John Lewiss Purchase, as they include 5ysrs warranty) and the Sony unit, but the Amazon cost saving finally swung the decision in the Sony's favour.
The TV arrived as promised. I hastely bolted the mounting bracket to the bedroon wall, plugged the TV power and Ariel in (after roughly throwing a 30 digital compatible Ariel into the loftspace and guessing the best transmission direction) and pressed the remote I/O button with anticipation, having disregarded the user manual as per a typical bloke.
After easily selecting the language and auto-tune function via the remote, the TV whizzed though the tuning procedure, getting 88 free-view channels almost immediately. The picture is stunning - thanks to the 8000:1 contrast ratio and on-screen controls are great and easy to adjust.
Sorry - bit of a long review but this Sony unit really is very well worth choosing for anyone with a similar budget in mind.
Brilliant service, wonderful TV May 11, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I SCANNED THE WEB FOR A NEW TV. I DECIDED TO MAKE A PURCHASE FROM AMAZON BECAUSE I FIND THE REVIEW SYSTEM IS EXCELLENT. I MADE THE PURCHASE ONE LUNCH TIME AND RECEIVED THE TV BY 10 O CLOCK THE FOLLOWING DAY... A SATURDAY AS WELL. MY SON, AGED 13, SPENT 10 MINUTES PLUGGING IN THE SET BEFORE IT WAS READY TO WATCH. UNPACKING THE TV TOOK LONGER. THE PICTURE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT AND I HOPE FOR MANY ENJOYABLE HOURS WATCHING TV. I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY FEWER PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY VISITING SHOPS WHEN A FIRST CLASS SERVICE LIKE THIS IS AVAILABLE.
Easy as 1, 2, 3... May 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews for this TV, and getting the great price from Amazon, I knew this was the one for me! Delivery was within 3 days and was without problem. Within 20 minutes of unpacking and plugging in, I was watching a clear picture with excellent sound. Would definately recommend to anyone who was unsure about purchasing this TV.
