4 out of 5 stars You haven't bought fakes don't worry!   May 18, 2008

I already owned a pair of these and came to the reviews to see if others' disappointment was similar to my own. Reading no end of reviews I learnt a lot, first I thought that perhaps I'd bought counterfeits or that as others had mentioned the much lauded "bass-driven sound" was a con. Bass was certainly absent on mine. Then I read further about "the fit" and others' experiences experimenting with the different sized rubber cups that come supplied. I played around with mine and low and behold the bass is there, rich deep sound. I know nothing about headphone technology but a millimetre move deeper into your ear releases all of the sound that these things were clearly designed for, bizarre, but a relief to discover the sound quality. On the down side as all humans' ear canals must vary a bit there may be some people who find it impossible to achieve this fit and can't enjoy the full quality of these great earphones. Once I'd achieved the bass sound I wanted I noticed the other common observation, when I move my head the sound of anything brushing the cables is magnified inside your head, if you clear your throat the sound is hard-wired directly into your brain too. The other point that perplexes people is one cable being longer than the other, the instructions with mine clearly indicate that this is to pass the left phone behind your head before inserting. And there is an advantage to this as it clearly does minimize the sound effect of any friction with the cable. My main criticism would be the great importance of achieving the correct fit in order to release the full sound and the poor instructions that come with them in reference to this issue. Perhaps in typical corporate fashion they didn't want to admit to any weakness in the product because they do require some tweaking to get the right fit. br / br /SUMMARY, great sound but you have to get them deeper into your ear, when you achieve this you will also notice that cable friction sound can intrude, however passing the extra long cable behind your head minimizes this.

5 out of 5 stars Big product for tiny ears   May 17, 2008

I've got stupid narrow ear canals. Nothing I can do about it except perhaps a full rebore and it doesn't stop me hearing things properly in the course of my normal life. The only problem is that whenever I try to wear in-ear headphones, they drop straight out. In desperation, I decided to try a pair of these with my Creative mp3 player. What a revelation. With the smallest ear-buds on, they fit perfectly and the sound is a hundred times better than the silly slack pair that came with the player. I've turned from a total cynic who could barely see the point in having an mp3 player to someone who hardly leaves the house without. They even do justice to the fantastic, rich bass in my lovely cheerful Joy Division albums. Highly and unreservedly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Quality and Customer Service   May 17, 2008

The CX300's have to be the most comfortable earphones I have ever used, after they've been in for 5 minutes you forget they're there. They also offer amazing quality for the price and in my opinion beat some of the pricier products. The bass is the real selling point of these 'phones, offering a crisp, clear bass line. The mid range and vocals are also excellent. br / br /There are 3 inserts in the box to suit everyone, I found that the small ones fit most people. Sennheiser has also recently adapted the jack on the CX300's to fit the iPhone so anyone worrying need not. br / br /However there is one flaw with them. After around 8 months use the casing around the jack and wiring started to break. This is no problem though as Sennheiser offer a two year warranty, the first being a retailers, the second being manufacturers, so I got them replaced with ease. br / br /Overall I would recommend these earphones who want a comfortable fit and great sound on a budget.

4 out of 5 stars 'Okay.'   May 16, 2008

What can I say? Bass. They can handle lots of it. BUT, they're really quite uncomfortable to insert, and they've kinda given me a bit of ear-ache from pulling them out, putting them back in (because of the suction). So for that reason, I'm not over-keen. I guess they'll come in useful on the bus and walking about near traffic, since you can't hear much whilst music is playing... br / br /Apart from the bass, the sound is okay, however, there's a certain something I can't really put my finger on that makes the sound a little fatiguing that I couldn't fix with an EQ. Maybe it's because they're so close to the ear-drums... Then again, I have pretty sensitive ears *shrugs*. br / br /So I think I'll stick to normal buds for general use.

Make sure you get a good fit and not tinny at all, don't criticise suppliers until you've experimented with the different size plugs
