Excellent value for money February 7, 2008 Grover Netzer (UK) I got these to replace some ageing Sony Ex-71 headphones, and found that the CX300s delivered much better sound quality. I absolutely disagree with other reviewers who complain about lack of bass. These headphones (if used right) have plenty of bass and a clear sound. Not as good as the Grado SR60s I have at home, but for 16 the CX300s represent excellent value. I also recommend ripping CDs using the LAME encoder- much better sound than the encoder built into Itunes.
A worthwhile upgrade ... February 7, 2008 Andrew Ray (UK) These sound so much better than the original buds that shipped with my iPod Touch 16Gb. I had a particular problem with the Apple buds rotating away from the best position for sound in my ears! These completely do away with that difficulty. It is worth spending some time learning how to put them in correctly and experimenting with each of the three sizes of outer flanges supplied. If they do not seal properly in your ear canal, the sound will be very poor indeed. br / br /With the right fittings and correct insertion they are fine - though I'd describe the bass response as light-medium. I felt the sound balance was musical and I have played classical orchestral, a capella vocal, Oasis, Coldplay, all with fine sound. I was not aware of attenuation or shrillness in the treble. br / br /Running the longer cable (right ear) behind your neck removes much of the extraneous noise generated by the 'tin-can-string-phone' effect! br / br /It's a small point, but the Eco-packaging is a fine idea, and thoroughly ingenious - I'm amazed it is not used across the range!
great sound, easy to missuse February 6, 2008 Lyall Ogden The sound from these earphones is simply superb when the price is taken into account. As I write this I am using them to listen to the album Mandylion by the Gathering, anyone who knows anything of the band should know the kind of demand their music makes of audio equipment and these earphones hold up beautifully. br / br /A lot of people complain of tinny sound and after a little experimentation I can see why, if the earphones are just placed into the ear like normal ear buds then yes the sound is tinny. However if you do as they where designed to and push them into the ear cannal like you would ear plugs you get the sound you want. br / br /The bass is rich and the mid tones are superb, if anything my only complaint about the sound quality is that the the treble comes accross a little weak in particulaly bassy tracks which is unusual. br / br /Other than that no issues, I find the cable is more than long enough for keeping my iPod in my jacket pocket and the assymetric cable is a preference of mine anyway. To be honest I find it hard to find fault with them, they even arrived the day after I ordered them!
A heavy headphone user and Audio Engineer January 14, 2008 Paul Maclugash (Jersey, Channel Isles) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
To be fair to those who have had problems they might not suit all tastes. br /But as a user of may high spec headphones eg Gardo, Sennheiser, AKG, Audioteknica,Sony and many more, These are one of the best in-ear headphones i have used. br / br /I have 4 sets of these after buying one set at dixons in the airport as i had forgot my sony in-ears and bought 3 pairs on amazon as at that time they were 30 in the airport now 25, As i use and often loose a lot of headphones. I think they are on par with the Sony's no problem, it comes down to personal choice as to which is best i like both but there is a differance. br / br /In my personal opinion the standard headphones that come most mp3 players are just acceptable and normally not a good fit in my ears. Out off the bud type headphones i find that the CX300 are one off the best. I have used Philips,Sony and Sennheiser of prices up to 40 and only found the Philips annoying to use over a long period all good on bass and overall sound. br / br /There is no noise cancelling in these headphones it is infact a block the better the headphones fit in your ears the less noise you get just like your fingers. My studio use headphones are Sennheiser HD25 150 and i consider these in-ears to be not far off in there sonic quality not quite there but not far. br / br /I have listened to expensive Bose noise cancelling headphones 300 and the noise cancelling is damaging the purity of the sound and this can be heard on the cymbals mainly but if you listen carfully it can be found all over the place. So to Sum up buy and try most of my friends now use these and love them if you don't someone you know will.
Fantastic......... But watch out for fakes January 9, 2008 Mr. A. Oddy (Manchester, UK) I bought my first pair of CX300's a couple of years ago from amazon for around 20. The build and sound quality was excellent, so when i lost the headphones i bought another pair from amazon marketplace for around 7. However, i noticed a significant difference in both sound quality and build between these and the last pair and soon realised they were fake. br / br /I would give the originals 5 stars and the fakes 1 star!!! br / br /Don't be as stupid as me........if you buy from the market place expecting a bargain because the price is significantly less than the amazon price they are most probably fakes.
