5 out of 5 stars Believe the reviews!   January 21, 2008

Have been agonising over the choice between more expensive monitors to replace my CRT. Found this on Amazon, read the reviews and thought that - for the price - it was worth a shot. br / br /The picture is just fantastic. Very sharp, no dead pixels and no noticeable uneveness in backlighting. Screen brightness is very bright - too much for me, even in 'text' setting - but easily altered to a more comfortable level. br / br /Unlike CRT monitors, where you can switch the resolution to suit, a flatscreen will only work properly with the stated resolution. I had always wondered why some screens on display in shops didn't look quite right when you used, for example, Notepad (the text looked messy). Presumably the resolution was close but not exact. br / br /So I was disappointed that the list of available resolutions in my Display Properties Settings did not include 1680x1050. Clicking the 'Advanced' button brought up my graphics card settings. This confirmed that the current list was limited (only offering resolutions suitable for my CRT screen) and there was an option to show all. br / br /Even when showing the full list, 1680x1050 still wasn't available. But it offered the option to create a custom resolution, which simply required me to enter the new values and click 'Add'. br / br /So even if your card doesn't appear to support the required resolution, investigate your settings. It might be that you are not seeing all available resolutions, that you can create a custom resolution or even download a newer version of the driver which supports a wider range of screen sizes. br / br /To set up, you attach the monitor and turn it on, then turn on your computer. Switch to the 1680x1050 resolution. And that's it. br / br /The screen has a small footprint and the whole thing looks gorgeous. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Though USB (for speakers), DVI and height adjustment would be nice, I have no regrets. As other reviewers have noted, the lack of DVI connectivity is nothing to worry about, the picture quality is excellent. br / br /It went from 'highly desirable' to 'essential' as soon as I started playing World of Warcraft! :D br /

Bought this to replace a 19" Sony 4:3 LCD at work, which has been passed on to a colleague. The lack of DVI input is nothing to be concerned about, as the images displayed are just as clear as (if not sharper than) my old DVI monitor. br /The initial default setup does give a 'bluey' tinge, but a quick change to 'User' setting gves a more natural image. br /Used mainly for CAD-CAM, 3D modelling and spreadsheets, I would definately recommend! br /The lack of height adjustment may have lost a star, but the price of 160 won it back!

Looked at a number of other widescreen monitors to go with a new PC but this looked the best spec and as it happens the cheapest - but don't let that put you off. br / br /Its a great screen - abs stunningly bright screen and clarity. And does not look cheap at all on the desk - quality black finish and simple stand. br / br /Setup? - really there wasnt any I just plugged it into a new XP PC and bingo. Havn't touched it since and it syncs and handles games (which usually screw up screen res) but it seems to figure this out. br / br /I saw other comments about no AVI input but wasnt an issue for me. br / br /Well recommended. br /
