3 out of 5 stars Works well but some irritations.   February 28, 2007

With a reasonable aerial in a strong signal area you can get a very acceptable picture. br / br /This device is actually let down by its way of operating. The main problem is the way you have to scan for available channels every time you plug it in. The second problem is the way it assigns channel numbers. They don't (or rarely) get the same number you'll see on a digital TV. They are, however, correctly identified. br / br /Overall this is pretty good and does what it's supposed to do but it ain't a television. So don't expect too much. I quite enjoy it.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent picture, good but not great with Media Centre   November 23, 2006

I bought this 3 months ago and it produces a high quality picture (better than my TV) as well as similarly v.high quality recordings using the supplied recording software. br / br /I'm running this on a new Intel Core 2.3 GHz, 1GB Ram, 80GB laptop. br / br /The recording software is a bit basic, and I have had a few reliability issues with setting up recordings 1 day in advance (i.e. didn't record). It does not have a built in TV guide like Windows Media Centre, although you can of course use WMC to record 14 days in advance (I have done this and have had no reliability issues). The picture quality on WMC is not as good as using the supplied software (recorded and live) and if you use a widescreen laptop WMC produces an annoying 2cm fuzzy area at the bottom of the picture on the 5 terrestrial channels (I've looked into it and haven't found a solution). The picture is still good on WMC (plasma quality) but the supplied software produces an amazing picture. br / br /The instructions tell you to set up the channels using an external aerial and this is easy to do (if you don't have one, go to a friend's house in the same TV region and run the channel search). Just as a tip, for those with picture issues you can pick up an external aerial, wire and fittings for 25 - just stick it in your attic or outside in the direction of the nearest transmitter - pointing in the right direction is more important than putting it on the roof (for the right direction search online or just look at the direction of all the aerials where you live). br / br /I'm pleased I didn't see the negative reviews before I bought this as, after 3 months the only complaint I have is the compatibility with Media Centre, which is good but not great. br /
