4 out of 5 stars Good buy but beware.....   July 14, 2006

The truth is that if your buying a digital TV card (freeveiw), that the cards themselves have little influence on the overall quality of the TV you will watch. All the cards can pick up the same stations (E4, BBC news 24, Kerrang etc... whether its your 70 terratec all singing all dancing ,or your cheap little USB Hauppauge stick. The thing which will influence the sigmal is your aerial. So my advice for those of you buying for the sole puurpose of veiwing digital TV on your comp at home and maybe recording the odd show is to buy a cheap USB stick and spend the bulk of your money on a reasonable indoor aerial and purchase a signal booster with it (20 ), and foreget using a PCI board with dual tuner blah blah... because its little advantage for the extra money. br / The funny thing about digital is that unlike analogue you ither have signal or you don't, no fuzy picture, either crystal clear or blank screen so reception is very important. br / The reason for 4 star rather than 5 is that the software included (Win TV) sucks soooooo much and theres not many other softwares availible (most are beta editions.) br / To conclude; this stick will serve the purpose of recieving digital TV through a good aerial (supplied aerial is v.weak and only usefull in strong signal area or outdoors.)

4 out of 5 stars Great picture for such a small device!   June 8, 2006

I've had this for only a couple of days now and on first impression I was suprised by how small this was. It could easily fit inside your pocket. br /On installing it, things went smoothly on Windows XP and I first attempted to use the portable arial that comes with it. Apparently, this thing when assembled from three parts is supposed to be one of the best, but it didn't do me any favours when I went to scan for channels - none came back at all. Apart from that, you need to be careful with the arial as it has a powerful magenet at it's base. br / br /Giving up on the arial, I plugged my TV arial coming from the roof into the thing and every channel was found in a 5 minute scan. The software that came with the thing is a bit flakey and crashed when trying to cancel the scan leaving me with no choice but to shutdown the machine. Once scanned though, the channels should remain in memory. Picture quality was very good and only marred by my laptop screen which can ghost a bit. br / br /I've been wanting to get this to work in Linux, and I got confused with this model and the older WinTV-Nova-T-USB2 product which is supported. The stick is based around the DibCom7700 chip, which is a high quality and tightly integrated piece of silicon, only it hasn't got driver support yet. I hear the guys are working on it though so it should be there in a short while.

i have to say this is one of the best TV tuners i've ever seen. it was so easy to install, just plug and play, and the WinTV program gives great quality. Also the aerial provided works really well picking up the channels and qiving quality that almost rivals my house aerail. i purchased another brand but had to send it back as it broke within 2 days but this one is much better and solid built. however it's worth noting that it DOES NOT come with a USB extention cable and amazon have not yet updated the website but thats no big deal as this is such a fantastic USB TV tuner. I highly advise buying this over any other and it may even be better then the PCI cards as it can just be moved from pc to pc.
