5 out of 5 stars Wouldn't be without it!   July 15, 2008

I had a Freecom USB stick before this. Picture quality was okay but the pedestrian USB connection and unimpressive software made me yearn for more. So I took the plunge and ordered one of these from Amazon. Been using it almost every day for the past 6 months. br /The WinTV Nova T500 is superb value, even once you've forked out another twenty squids or so for the Windows remote control and receiver (essential if you're planning to use this with Windows Media Center Edition). br /Installation was a bit of a struggle, only because I opted to use the card with Windows MCE. The instructions that came with the unit didn't really help much with this, although there is a wealth of information online if you know where to look: check out thegreenbutton.com and of course Hauppage's own online support. br /My PC already had MCE installed, and with the additional purchase of the dedicated Microsoft MCE remote I now have a cracking sytem that just works day after day making this a real fit and forget experience. br /Recording two channels at once is a blast, even whilst watching another recording. Picture and sound quality are great and the response to control commands is as fast as I had hoped. Well worth the effort! br /

5 out of 5 stars Great product with Vista MCE   April 22, 2008

I have been looking for a tuner that I could add to my Vista Ultimate PC with Media Centre. I was expecting this card to be as difficult to set up as previous Hauppauge versions but found the opposite. br / br /Recommendation - Ignore the Win TV application. It's not good enough and drags the excellent technical spec down with the poor design for the software. All I did instead was put the card in, let Vista recognise this, manually installed the drivers from the downloaded version from the Hauppauge website and then let Vista Media Centre do the rest. It worked first time and seamlessly with the Media Centre functionality including EPG, recording dual feeds, timeshift etc. etc.... br / br /One downside is that although it says Vista compatible on the box, the shipped discs are XP only. Still give it 5 stars as it's a great tuner.

4 out of 5 stars A great card for Linux PVRs   January 19, 2008

I have two of these cards (making four tuners in total) on my MythTV machine. Having built a few MythTV-based media centres now, this is my far the best card I've tried, and is now very well supported under linux using the video4linux drivers (using the open source firmware out there; just search around for dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw). The linux firmware can also enable the "poor quality signal booster" that's built on to the card. br / br /The card tunes to channels notably faster than many of the other tuners I've tried too. br / br /However, it's not without its faults: br / br /As stated previously, the remote control is a bit rubbish (feels very cheap, and has a limited angle/range, more tricky to get working under Linux), so the USB MS MCE Remote is definitely a must-buy to go with this (very well supported on Linux). br / br /In addition, it'd have been nice to see regular RF terrestrial supported and FM too, but with the DVB Radio channels on Freeview this may not be a gripe for you. br / br /I've also found that the ariel socket on the back is a little feeble, the older of my cards has worked itself slightly loose and I'm a tad concerned it may disconnect from the board before too long. br / br /Taking all of the above in to consideration, this is still far and above the best card for a Linux based PVR and very worthy of a 4/5 rating.

I bought this product to upgrade my pc to freeview. This product is fantastic, i was about to buy a usb freeview stick but i had problems before when i bought one so i bought this. All the channels appear when you scan, it is compatiable with media centre 2005, you can record 2 shows at once. The only bad thing about this is that there is no way of finding out what is on as there is no schedule display on media centre which is a bit annoying but i only use it to record shows. The package came in 3 days and i highly recommend this item to anyone who is plaaning on upgrading their pc's.
