Excellent - apart from BBC2 December 1, 2007 K. Allen (UK) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This little box is excellent value for money; easy setup and operation, box looks good and the remote is nice. It has good on-screen features (program information and program timetable) and seems to lack nothing found on my more expensive Sony unit (VTX-D800U) - which I would have bought had it not been discontinued. br / br /I also experience the black screen issue with BBC2 as reported by another reviewer, despite having full green bars for signal strength and quality. br / br /The unit comes with a short scart lead but does not come with a UHF feedthrough lead, so if you want to watch BBC2 (via analogue) then you will have to buy one!
better than dtr210 but has glitches too October 26, 2007 gizmo (uk) 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
this has more features than the previous model (dtr210) like a comprehensive technical info screen which shows the multiplex channel the programmes are on and other details. uses the same remote control protocol as the dtr210 so you can use the dtr210 remote on the dtr220. the radio button also works and switches between tv and radio (which didn't on my dtr210). when new channels come on air they are added to the programme list automatically (unlike the dtr210). the dtr220 looks good on top of a tv. doesn't appear to have a reminder function like the dtr210 which i found very useful. but my dtr220 locked up after a software upgrade search so there are glitches with this model too. overall 5 out of 5 rating for this (freeview only) type of box.
Aggravating on turn on and no better than any other freeview box October 2, 2007 jay (London) 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
I accept that alot of the problems with this are down to the lack of an outdoor aerial but it isn't any better than the cheap box I had before and alot more annoying due to it going through a loading screen when you turn it on rather than just going straight to the channel it was on when turned off. The epg etc is clear and set up easy but that palaver when you turn it on (which no other box I've ever had has done - and I have had a few, believe me) is just annoying, as is the big updated firmware announcement box that comes up after it has done an update and which shows in anything you may have been recording at the time. The box is attractive to look at, and lovely and small, but that doesn't make any difference to the performance of it. I found that it isn't any better than the previous box I had even though I also spent 30 on a better aerial. Sorry, until the broadcasters do something about sending a decent flaming signal out none of these damn boxes will be that good. I know someone who had to change their rooftop aerial because their box didn't like the one they had so even some rooftop aerials don't do the job. Just buy the cheapest one you can get and you'll probably get just as good as this - or any other one.
all you need at a good price October 1, 2007 Pichel3000 (UK) 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
After the old Philips 200/05 box packed in after a so-called software "upgrade", I went for the 220 model and we haven't been disappointed yet. It's a small, yet stylish little black box (much smaller than the old 200/05). 7-day EPG works well, channel scan took about 5 minutes (despite the fact that we live in a low signal area and require signal boosters) and channel switching is fast (around a second, I'd say). So all in all the box seems to perform well so far.
