A Gem! January 2, 2008 Neill George (Northern Ireland) 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
I'm travelling Europe for 3/4 months and want to have plenty of photos to remember it by. I therefore spent a month researching as many cameras as possible to make sure I got the right one. This is the camera I decided upon and I'm glad I did. br / br /Pros: br /- The camera is small and sturdy, being made of metal. If you drop it you're more likely to damage the ground than the camera. br /- The interface is easy to use; I was able to pick it up and use it without reading the manuals. br /- There is a viewfinder. You can switch off the LCD screen and use the view finder to save power. br /- Plenty of shooting modes including a great macro mode. br /- The movies are great quality and the sound is crisp and clean. br /- The camera is responsive and has a nice shutter speed to make up for the lack of anti-blur. br /- The zoom feature is easy to use, and being optical the pictures don't end up grainy. br / br /Cons: br /- Lack of anti blur. br /- Face detect doesn't work all the time, but it's not too big a deal. br /- The included memory card is only 32mb so you'll need to buy a new one. br / br /I'd like to note that I bought this camera without realising that the battery was li-ion. I was worried about how I might charge it in Europe but to my delight I discovered that the charger comes with a European plug as well. With the Amazon price being 80/90 cheaper than it is in the shops I think that you owe it to yourself to buy one.
Super Camera January 2, 2008 Michalis Demetriou 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I ordered this camera with a 2GB SD card with Christmas money, it came today and I have had a play around to familiarise myself with all of it's features. It is easy to use, takes fantastic pictures, compact and the features are great. The image stabilizer is great so you don't have to worry about a child or a pet suddenly moving just as you take the picture and the colour accent feature is very nice.
Excellent camera, Lovely pictures January 1, 2008 Ian Hartley (Edinburgh) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Really impressed with this camera. My old 3.2 MP Optio S packed in after almost 5 years faithful service and I replaced it with the Canon Ixus 70. The pictures are fantastic and so vivid. br /If I were to pick fault it would have to be with the cheap plastic mode switch on the back. The rest of the camera feels superbly made of excellent quality, it is irritating that this switch feels so cheap and nasty.
Surprisingly Easy to Use! December 7, 2007 C. A. Rider 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
Bought to replace Ixus 40, purely because of the larger screen. However the menu system seems far easier to navigate than the Ixus 40 - which I found rather complicated. The self timer for instance is simple to use. There are also more steps in the zooming range. From my experience so far, the battery seems to last longer too. Altogether very pleased with this camera so far!

Needing a replacement for my Pentax s5i after the flash stopped working, I had a look at the review sites and, for the price, Canon's Ixus 70 seemed to provide the best results. I have only had it a couple of days, so I suppose I need to give it a proper workout yet, but so far I am impressed. I like the small size, although it seems weightier than the s5i. It has a good sized screen with excellent clarity. The function buttons are a little fiddly, being flush to the camera body with no bumps or ridges for low light handling. The mode switch seems a bit plasticky, hope it stands up to repeated use. There is an excellent range of shooting modes, with some nice features I have not used before, like colour swap and colour accents, so they'll be fun to have a go with. Anyway, seems like a good buy if, like me, you have little experience with a camera and just want a handy point and shoot for your hols. Amazon are charging the best price at the moment, I think (and it's now 50 pence cheaper than when I bought it!)
