5 out of 5 stars Great little camera   November 24, 2007

I've bought several Ixus compacts over the years - I had the first digital version which got the dreaded E18 problem and replaced it with a 500 which has been great. We're going on a trip soon and my wife asked me to get her a camera so I ordered the Ixus 70 - I have to say so far I'm very impressed more compact than the 500 with a wonderful clear LCD screen. So far results are very good and the retention of a viewfinder for a traditionalist such as I is a great feature.

5 out of 5 stars Good value for money   November 14, 2007

Recently bought this camera for my occasional shots, it has a few good features and it's quite small, I hadn't actually realized how small it is. I don't know why this obsession in making everything the smallest possible, from Ipods to cameras everything is getting smaller and smaller. Anyway, the one thing I like about the Ixus 70 is how intuitive it is. Unless you are not much used to cameras, you won't actually need to read any manual before using it. It's a good camera for those who want a back-up camera or are just after a small reliable camera from a good brand. If you are any interested in photography though, it won't be long before you start looking for something with more possibilities. I mean, the Ixus is great value for money, it won't come any better than this for less than 130. It all depends on your needs really. I was also looking at other models at this price range, more specifically the Finepix F40fd and the Cybershot w55, I guess they are all pretty much equivalent. The Samsungs have the best design for me, but I think they are more good design than good cameras, so I tend to stick to the better brands. I got a Sandisk Ultra II 2gb to use with the Ixus 70 and I think it's just fine. Don't buy the cheapest memories as they are cheap because they can be unreliable and really slow. Good camera for the price. And Amazon is just the best place to buy, at Dicksons is about 40 more expensive.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Camera   November 11, 2007

This camera is fantastic, I have used a digital camera for about 6 years, wanted higher pixels, and better quality night shots. The Canon is so easy to use and as stated on other reviews great for beginners. br / br /As yet I have only used the card supplied with the camera, the shots are incredible really sharp. I haven't gone into all the menus as yet but I will in time, probably won't use them all I'm not a professional just love taking pictures. The zoom on it is unbelievable and love the slide show. I've only taken one night shot which is good I can even make out a car going down the street, not my usual night shot will have to wait until I go abroad again to find out. I did purchase a byteStar 1gb card at the same time (I take a lot of pics). The parcel arrived two days later than date given but that's fine I wasn't in a hurry. br / br /Took a few shots yesterday in the park, wow try and get a squirrel to stay still, managed to get some good shots of one though really pleased with them and the Macro feature is really good, took one of a leaf and you can see the veins of the leaf no problem. br / br /All in all I am more than pleased with my Xmas present to me, in fact thrilled to bits. br / br /I purchased a Sony W55 from Amazon, had to return it what a load of rubbish, Sony make a lot of great products but Cameras are not one of them. That'll teach me to go with my first instinct. br / br /Went shopping last Friday for a case wanted one with the belt holder, a gentleman was looking at Cameras so I recommended him to go on Amazon and purchase the Canon. Amazon are great to deal with, when I sent the Sony back there was no problem, no questions asked and a full refund.
