Portable Dvd player August 8, 2005 A. Wolfe 23 out of 24 found this review helpful
I would recommend this portable dvd player to anyone who was looking out to buy one, as it is lightweight, comes with everything you would need and is easy tho carry in the case provided. What really made it stand out from its other competators is that it is multi-region so you can play any dvds from another country, also it plays most other disks like photo disks and windows media. It is easy to use and you can change all the settings like the contrast, brightness etc.brIam pleased with my one I bought and it was definatley worth the money!

Very Good July 20, 2005 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
The SDP-1720A is great, it handles all the formats I tried including DivX. The quality is very good for the money. I used it on holiday and the battery life is impressive - it was sufficient for watching a 2.5 hour movie and still had power remaining. As mentioned by other reviewers it's a bit noisy when loading up but that's not really an issue and it's quite when playing. The screen quality is good and viewing angle is reasonable. My purchase included a free carry case and remote together with the wire for hooking up to the TV and also a car charger. If you are in the market for a relatively cheap portable DVD player then you should definitely look at this model. Finally, don't be put off by the name Shinco, I have found that these days the electronics from China and Korea are just as good if not better than the Japanese brands.
Great little unit July 11, 2005 chucky (Australia) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
great little unit...plays almost all formats available to any dvd player on the market. Region free, all dvd formats upto 4.7 gb, cds, mp3, wma, jpeg, divx and mpeg4. The sound quality is fantastic on headphones, although the speakers do lack a bit of bass. Has all the other bits and pieces needed to make it completely portable in the car or hotel room. Overall i give it 5 stars
Excellent at Twice the Price! May 12, 2005 152 out of 152 found this review helpful
This machine surpassed all my expectations. After trawling all the usual high street stores, I'd almost given up on finding a decent device on my meagre budget of 100- 150. You're spoilt for choice with 100 more, but the machines at the low end of the market were either encased in cheap plastic, were to bulky with the battery, or the screens were poor.pNot so the Shinco. Shinco make a lot of the portables on the market, including those rebadged by 'known' brands, so don't worry about having never heard of them. This model is as good as anything at 250 with a comparible screen size.pDespite the generous 7" screen, the unit is very small with a lovely metal finish. The screen is bright and clear and I don't believe you'll see anything matching the quality elsewhere at the price. Sound is a little tinny, but okay considering the size of the unit and it can get quite loud before distortion sets in.pIt's played everything I've thrown at it so far! Dix and Xvid (mpeg4) look and play fine and the Mp3 playback is an excellent bonus (the playback screen will even display embedded album art!) and although not documented, I discovered it will play WMA as well as Mp3. DVD playback, whether from an original or an RW recorded off the telly is faultless.pThe battery is quite heavy, but 3 hours means this is a true portable and you have powerleads for the home and car - you shouldn't get caught out here!pCriticisms? The drive can sometimes be quite noisey and there is often a bit of a clicking noise when playing mp3 and mpeg4. At normal volume levels or on headphones it's fine though. Finally, although it could be my mistake, random/shuffle etc only work within the currently selected folder on mp3 cds. It would be nice if it would shuffle the whole Cd. Finally, although it's a nice extra, jpeg photos on CD are not done justice to. The colours are washed out and dull.pIn summary, a great gadget which will make you feel smug on the aeroplane, train, back of the car etc!
