2 out of 5 stars not good enough   December 12, 2007

Likes:
* FM transmitter for the mp3 player and route comments
* Spoken street names
* Looks nice

Dislikes:
* The unit will not stay on the window
* Map corrections don't appear on the unit after updates
* After the first online update the unit stopped working until I put the backup back on.
* Customer services don't answer emails.
* Some strange routes chosen taking me off a main road and then back on for no reason.
* Cant play mp3s from the SD card it must be in the MP3 folder on the unit.
* I still haven't got the hang of putting the unit on the mount.
* Dose not seam to be very accurate at telling you when I have arrived, sometimes not even close to the destination.
* The Voucher code in the box was already out of date/not valid.
* The bluetooth hands free does not work with my HTC XDA Exec.

I hope my opinions are of use.

3 out of 5 stars Great, when the software is up to date...   December 11, 2007

I chose this product primarily due to the faultless version of Tom Tom software which I used on my HTC PDA. Unfortunately, the mapping software seems to have taken a step backwards, as two major destinations I've wanted to navigate to in the first two weeks of use have not been covered. One was The Bath Spa Hotel in Bath, one of the country's premier hotels and near the centre of town. The software could not find the postcode or the road (Sydney Road, Bath), despite it being in existence for hundreds of years!

It's a shame as this unit is well featured and very intuitive to use, it's just the mapping information which has so far let it down in my case.

3 out of 5 stars Save Your Money, Buy Something Else   December 7, 2007

I bought one of these for the new features like mapshare and voice recognition.

However bluetooth on my unit like many others is useless with person you are calling only hearing a buzzing noise.

At first TomTom admitted the problem and said an upgrade would fix. Now, two months later they will exchange for repair but long delays due to no units that actually work properly.

Mapshare
Nice idea but only certain changes appear instantly on your device.

Only
Block/Unblock Street
Reverse Traffic Direction
Change Street Names
Missing POI
Changed POI

Are claimed to work and no POI corrections I have ever made have appeared.

So Round-abouts, No Left Turns, No Right Turns only appear some time in the future or maybe when you buy a map upgrade. Yes you still have to buy maps every year to keep map share working.

Also dash mount has no power or data connection so you have to plug these into the base of the unit.

4 out of 5 stars Cool..... but!   December 3, 2007

Found this new tomtom really cool, has some great features and much improved on my last tom tom - however.....

I find the suction pad is rubbish - its constantly falling off my windscreen - Ive tried everything to get it to stick but I just dont find it very good - never had any trouble sticking my old one so I know its not a windscreen problem ... :O(

1 out of 5 stars Buy with caution   November 15, 2007

Bought in August, trash in November. OK, it's a usable SatNav if/when it's working (supplied UK map has many omissions and some routes are odd) but my one (I might be unlucky) has had both firmware and PC software interface problems. The latest problem: After the latest TomTom firmware upgrade - recommended by the very weak TomTom HOME software - the device no longer works. Tom Tom Support are pretty useless and any way have a 2+ day turn-round between emails. Their complex solutions have been tried and failed to fix it and they have stopped responding. I now have a dead SatNav to try and get repaired/returned under warranty. I cannot afford the time spent trying to fix it and am writing this unit off, to be replaced by the Garmin 760T.
