4 out of 5 stars Very good - even without the wires everwhere   October 9, 2008

I left it 3 weeks before writing this so I'd have enough miles under my belt to test it properly and also the novelty of having it would have worn off. For the price I have to say I'm impressed. It isn't as clear as FM and the number of stations you can pick up can be disappointing (even with non-car DAB) but if you know this before buying you won't feel let down. br /Setup tooks 5 mins and rather than sticking mount to the windscreen I ditched the idea altoghter and have the unit in the compartment between the front seats. Similarly I didn't stick the aerial to the windscreen - I just slotted it into the pocket on the rear of the drivers seat. This means I can use the power point in the back and there's minimal cable visible - sitting in the front you wouldn't know the unit was there. br /I live in the North West and the reception has been fine; I did have to manually tune the untit to broadcast to 87.6 however as the auto-search kept finding frequencies that didn't last long before local stations overwhelmed the signal. br /All in a very good buy.

Why not 5 stars ? br /The only quibble is that it loses the DAB signal from time to time. Now, that could be because the signal itself drops out, but you have to suspect that maybe the amplifier could be better. br / br /Overall, its great. You get good sound, and people can't believe they are listening to the same station that sounds so muddy on medium wave. Recommended especially if you are a Sports fan (5 Live, 5 Sports Extra or TalkSport).

Having thought long and hard and after reading plenty of reviews;I finally decided to buy one of these. And I am so glad i did! What a beauty, crystal clear DAB radio in my car!Having been a DAB radio addict for a number of years this was a long awaited addition for me.Easy to set up, easy to use.Other reviewrs have complained of the aerial being a bit obtrusive, but its not that bad just tuck the wires away. Buy buy buy............

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant, but only if an external Ariel fitted   September 14, 2008

Ace bit of kit, pausing BBC7 for about 8 mins during telephone calls! br / br /I drive a new Mondeo all over the midlands, With the internal radio it worked, but had frequent dropouts. Possibly mounting the ariel on the drivers side would be slightly better, as clear of de-mister wires within the screen. br /I am now getting perfect results with a self modified Taxi 1/4 wave ariel from Maplin (N23AC). See the pure highway FAQ for confirmation. br /I cut the whip to 33.2cm which is perfect for BBC7 which gave me most problems. br /I have fitted my own right hand 2.5 mm stereo plug signal to tip, outer to braid, nothing to middle. I also cut the original ariel from pure at just before the sticky black block. and fitted a stereo 2.5mm socket on the cable. with this then I have enough cable to mount and hide cables. br /Take care not to short any wires. don't drag off roof or will scratch the paint.
