Does the eSata connectivity actually work October 6, 2008 Phillip Murray (West Sussex, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this product over others purely for the eSata connectivity and the greater transfer speeds this enabled. Everything works fine except for the eSata connection. I have tried the using the existing socket on the back the desktop, purchased a eSata II PCIe card, all to no avail. Now after visiting various websites it seems that many others are having the same problems. I wish i'd done more research first and gone straight for a network drive
A great external Hard Disk October 6, 2008 John Nunn (Coventry, U.K.) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
A superb external HDD, the array of conections means this drive can be used on virtually any computer straight out of the box, it is a real shame that an eSATA cable is not included where as both USB and Firewire cable are in the box. br / br /The device is very much plug and play with no drivers needed. I have got one of these of these attached to my development PC and use it for storing Virtual PC images and as a scratch disk for animation work as well as video editing. br / br /The included eSATA interface means the performance is good enough to run applications or virtual machines from.
eSata problem solved September 24, 2008 Pete (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For a long time I could not get my computer to recognise this disk on the eSata connector. I finally solved it by trimming down the outer collar of the eSata lead with a scalpel. It seems the MyBook case would not allow my eSata lead to enter fully to make contact. I trimmed of about 2.5mm all around and voila. I hope this helps someone. br /Otherwise a nice quiet drive. Let me reinforce what others have said - any manufacturers drive can fail so BACK UP IMPORTANT DATA TO A DIFFERENT DEVICE and if it is really important keep a copy in another building. br /
Simple to use, Brilliant Product! August 28, 2008 Mr. J. Edwards (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Like another review said, If your a bit of a computer geek, or you know what your doing. Don't bother looking at the software pre-loaded. Just format the device to NTFS. br / br /Speeds are good on both USB + Firewire, Can't speak for eSata because there was no cable! br / br /I've Partitioned the hard drive into 4 seperate parts and it works lovely! br / br /The only thing which confuses me is how to turn the drive off, I know theres a button on the back - But you push it, the lights do something but it remains on. br / br /So what you do is, 'Safely remove the device' from your computer. Then Hit the power button. Then its switched off :) br / br /One handy product is the little WD icon tray program that allows you see how much storage has been used and wether the temp is running okay. br / br /Apart from the above power button issue, which after learning your get the hang of. I'm happy with the product and would recommend it!
