4 out of 5 stars Fading slowly but still good   June 21, 2008

This series is quite dark in the first two or three episodes, before miraculously, everybody seems to cheer up. Some massive highlights, including a run in with the Scientologists, but not quite at the peaks of previous efforts.

David Mitchell and Robert Webb are back for the fifth instalment of Peep Show, an award winning show in first person style filming. With Mark leaving Soph jilted at the alter, and Jez trying desperately to get his ex back, what a treat we had in line for series 5? br / br /This series we see Mark trying to finally divorce Soph, and make a play for a geeky co-worker, known as "Dobbie", who loves first person role playing games and anything IT really, sounds perfect for Mark doesn't it? br / br /Jez is trying hard to get a record deal: but with Superhans being the way he is, and them not actually being that good, means that the future isn't bright for these two, so he has to seriously consider his future. br / br /Soph's still very upset about Mark leaving her, and even has a few flings, including co-workers and people Mark knows. br / br /This isn't a bad series, but it's not as good as the past series to me. The storylines are good - but they keep ending too conveniently for the length of the episode, or sometimes you get the feeling they're unsure about whether series 6 will go ahead, or if they'll get wrong and die hard fans will be annoyed. The series does work well, but at times you wish they'd stick with a storyline, like Dobbie finally going out with Mark, but you do wonder, does he really just want Soph anyway? br / br /The extras on this look good, a behind the scenes with the boys and girls of Peep Show; the Peep Show relationship tree, which maps every relationship there has been in Peep Show from episode 1 of series 1. There's also Soph's POV, which are scenes filmed in her point of view, which will apparently make up series 6, not sure how that works, maybe C4 have given them another series? There's also deleted scenes, which should be a treat in itself. br / br /This DVD is well worth getting if you like Peep Show, as it's very funny, especially Mark's comments and the way he goes about things. I still think this show is great, and that it's one of the best British situational comedies.

Five series in now and, for me, the Peep Show is still the best thing on British television. After 4 seasons, nevermind 5, you might expect a slight dip in quality, as everything you love about the show slowly fades and the brilliant characters become caricatures. Thankfully, this hasn't happened and the latest batch of episodes is as funny as ever. br / br /No other show makes me scream the house down with laughter or has at least 20 memorable quotes per episode, but this isn't what makes The Peep Show so special. You fall in love with the show because you relate so strongly to the plight of these two young men, as they try to make their way through the trials and tribulations of love and life in modern Britain. Mark is reserved, inhibited and uptight, while Jeremy says and does all the things we wished we had the nerve to say and do. The two main characters may be very different, but they both, in turn, reveal all the anxieties and insecurities that plague us when we try to get on in life and/or find someone to settle down with. They drag these neurotic grey areas of life into the light with intelligent, insightful and downright hysterical dialogue and secret narrated thoughts ... and THIS is what makes the show special. br / br /

Hooray - another series! I had to rub my eyes when I saw Series 5 was available on DVD - I thought 'I can't remember even watching it on TV!' Can't wait for it to be on TV and to be available on DVD.....the best british comedy since Vic and Bob in the 90's.....can't wait for series 2 of That MW Look!
