4 out of 5 stars A great film in it's own right   June 14, 2008

Why do people expect film adaptations of books to be exactly as they interpreted the book? It just doesn't happen - look at Hunt for Red October, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings etc. br / br /I loved the book and having read the reviews, I was a bit nervous about seeing the film but I'm glad I did. Like the recent remake of The Italian Job - suspend your expectations and just enjoy the film for what it is. br / br /This is BASED on the book - it is NOT an adaptation. Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler are superb as Holly and Gerry. Yes it has all been moved to New York but it still tells a great story and in my mind, that means the film hits the mark. You cannot help but feel for Holly as she learns to continue without Gerry. br / br /Best thing to do is curl up on the sofa, open that box of choccies and enjoy a superb film - just make sure you have a box of kleenex handy cos the tears will roll...

3 out of 5 stars don't watch if you loved the book!   June 9, 2008

As often happens, the book is better than the film, eg the Da Vinci Code. Why this is the case is perhaps because it takes hours to read a book but this ahs to be captured into less than 2hours of film. br / br /I found this film slow and no where near as heart touching as the book.

This film blew my away,, My girlfriend brought it over to watch on saturday.. I thought "not another chick flick" sat down ,, as you do , to appease.. I was gripped from start to finish,, I have to say the GF made a great choice.. I would rate it higher that Notting Hill and the like... watch it, and guys,, i bet it makes you pretend to yawn , when you are hiding the emotions br /
