Bought this mainly for my wife to use about 4 months ago. Overall a good br /unit but with a number of flaws. Firstly you need to get used to a number br /of strange aspects of the spoken instructions - primarily that it virtually br /never (except at roundabouts) says anything when you need to go straight br /on. Secondly although the unit does recalculate the route if you take br /a different turning from what it recommends for the first br /few miles the instructions may be complete garbage (i.e. neither directing br /you back to the original route or towards the destination). We have also br /had the unit crash a few times in which case it reboots itself and br /sometimes forgets the destination - very annoying when you are br /driving. It also seems to run rather hot which makes me worry br /about its longevity. br / br /Finally don't rely on doing anything that involves connecting to br /a computer if your computer is a Mac. This means it is not possible br /to set a password, update the maps, update the software or backup br /the unit. I couldn't get the Mac version of the TomTom Home software br /to work for setting passwords. Customer support were not much help br /first suggesting something irrelevant (turn off Bluetoooth when br /this unit doesn't have it) and then suggesting a software upgrade. br /Before upgrading the software the software (sensibly) br /suggested backing up the machine to the computer. Unfortunately this br /didn't work either. At this point I gave up not wishing to risk br /trashing the machine with a software upgrade with faulty software.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas from Amazon. He loves it and two more people have bought one on our recommendation. However, we decided to go onto TomTom Home to download the updates (as recommended) and after a couple of hours the result is that we can no longer use it. It says that there are no maps although the memory is almost full. You cannot phone a helpline and we have emailed and got one back saying that they will reply in two days! So great sat nav now unusable!

What a great easy to use piece of kit. It's simple to operate, picks up the satelites easily, has a host of really useful features and at 128 was an absolute bargain. We toyed with the Garmin nuvi250, but the reviews for the tomtom were a lot more positive. br /If you want a simple piece of equipment that does what it says on the box-this is for you. I look forward to trying it out in France this summer.
