You can count on my steel! July 20, 2006 E. Griffiths (Birmingham) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This film is just hilarious, it's not much like the Evil Dead films in tone. It's not scary or gorey in any way, just silly and very funny. Bruce Campbell is great value for money as usual, why that guy hasn't been in more films I'll never know. He's also very good in Bubba Ho-Tep for anyone who hasn't yet seen it, that guy was born to play Elvis. br /My favourite scene is the coughing bit in the graveyard, people who've seen it will know the bit I mean. br /Anyway, I won't say anything else in case I spoil something but if you are a fan of silly horro spoofs you seriously have to see this film. br / br /
'Hail to the King Baby!' April 22, 2006 Mr T (Scotalnd) Cant really say anything that hasnt been said before by other reviewers, but I love this film. It is very loosly connected to the 1st two evil dead films (the first i love, the 2nd im not too keen on), and isnt a horror film rather a comic/adventure/fantasy creation. I would imagine that the poor ratings given to this film by some people would be because they were expecting an old fashioned horror in the shape of the first evil deads br / br /Even so, if you want some cheesy goodness, bad effects, and great one liners, then i would highly recommend this
Listen up you primitive Screwheads! January 4, 2005 David Pursglove (Sheffield, England) I'm glad this classic cult movie from one of the greatest horror trilogy's out there is on DVD however, have you ever sat and watched a movie, kinda happy but thinking to yourself "why?"pThe movie itself does not link up to the end of the second movie, in which everyone praises him and we presume he becomes the king. In this movie, it starts off where he becomes a slave, has to kill some midget down a well (and that's what it really is! the monsters are no longer scary like the original two) until he gains respect and becomes a knight which everyone loves.pHowever... the films musical score is composed by Danny Elfman which knocks it back up abit and the fight scenes are entertaining enough to watch and be kept in suspense but for a horror movie, my dad was shocked when the guy selling it us said "this film is so funny, just like the Monty Python movies" Granted the movie is great, i love the trilogy but it is the latter of the series, you can watch this with your family however, if you want to bring some cult tv watching into the house.pIf you want a "Monty Python"-esque film buy this DVD but if you want a horror film buy "Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn" by far, the most entertaining, and scariest of the trilogy.pAs for the DVD extras, some new unseen footage is available but the documentaries are pretty bad, they explain how they had about 10 million dollars to make this movie and they spent 9 million on a skeleton horse which they never used in this movie.
Someone made the mistake of giving the director a budget.. December 1, 2004 Mr. W. J. Robbins 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Third installment in Raimi's Evil Dead Trilogy, and by far the worse. (Not for the last time in his career) Someone made the mistake of giving Sam Raimi a bigish budget, and as a result the inventive scripts, and the imaginitive use of the camera that so distinguished his earlier works are largely missing from this.brThink 'Xena: Prices Warrior' with a bit more blood and a wise cracking comic book hero (ok, so Bruce Campbell is a God, but he doesn't save this film) and you will be somewhere close.brThis film has some great moments but not nearly enough of them to stave off the yawns for the full 90 minutes. brWatching the deleted scenes is a little depressing, as it becomes clear that somewhere along the line Sam decided to sacrifice the dark feel that he achieved in Evil Dead II in favour of much more 'slapstick funny' content. I feel that a number of the alternate scenes that were not included would have been far better in the film than the scenes he decided to include.brSo, I guess what I'm saying is 'not terrible, just dissapointing'.
