4 out of 5 stars Vax V-006   February 28, 2008

This vacuum has replaced a Dyson. Not dissappointed. Very powerful suction. Not as heavy as I was expecting after reading some reviews. Not as noisy either! Overall a very good buy for the money.

I have just bought this to replace my Dyson which had more faults than you can shake a stick at (disgusting considering the price, but that's another story). As ever, Amazon have come up trumps on both price and delivery. br / br /With regards to the vacuum itself, I chose Vax for its good name and reading the reviews here, I wasn't too bothered about the noise element. It arrived this morning and I put it together quite quickly and to be fair I think it's a good looking piece of kit. br / br /So, the good points: br /* The suction is amazing br /* The Turbotool is a nifty tool br /* The "headlight" is a bit of a gimmick but a nice-to-have br /* The tools do stay on board (unlike the Dyson) br /* I like the foot on/off switch br /* The cable is long enough br / br /The bad points: br /* The reach up the stairs is terrible. I can't get to the top 4 steps. br /* There is a huge amount of "blow back" when I vacuum my "built-in" front door mat - bits of matting all over the wooden floor I'd just cleaned! br /* When using the hose (on its own or with an attachment), dirt blew out of the place where the end of the hose is usually housed - again blowing dirt all over the place. br / br /So, good marks for its looks, its suction and its tools but in my view it loses points for its poor reach and the blow back problems. br /

4 out of 5 stars Cleans well but heavy to use   January 20, 2008

All vacuum cleaners have good and bad points. This one cleans very well and has been more reliable and more robust then the previous Dyson that we owned. in particular, the hose and tools are much better quality than Dyson ones. br / br /The bad points are: br /- It's quite heavy to lug upstairs (I'm not a weakling, my wife has me carry it up) br /- You should replace the filter every 12 months or so as efficiency decreases br /- Cleaning out the filter and receptacle can cause lots of dust clouds as you need to knock the dust off the paper filter br / br /The good points: br /- It's lasted 3 years of good use br /- It picks up well br /- All the tools still work and the hose is in one piece (more than could be said for our Dyson) br /- Spares are relatively cheap (compared to Dyson) br /- You can fit a new belt in 5 minutes if it breaks (2 supplied) - unlike Dysons which are very difficult to work on br / br /At under 100 it's worth it.

After my dyson broke for the 2nd time I looked at what other makes were available. I only looked as far as amazon and chose this one based on reviews and a great price - decided 59 was a bargain if it was as good as people said. br / br /So far I have been very pleased, the turbo tool is fab and as for being noisy I haven't noticed any increase - although with 3 children its usually a relief to hoover!! br / br /I like the way the hose can just be pulled out quickly - something I also disliked about my Dyson and suction is great. br / br /Would certainly recommend it.
