Reading the reviews gave me severe doubts about buying this machine until I came to that by Sarah Keeling. I too wanted to replace one of the horrid Vax orange drums that had gone out of use as a carpet washer because of the complexities of setting it up. She had found it a great advance and had had no problems. I then re-read the bad reviews and thought that, in many cases expectations had been too great and mechanical ability sparse! So I ordered one. Putting it together was easy but one does need a clear table to work on and a chair to sit on when fitting the tool caddy - and a good light or daylight. Seeing where black goes on black is always difficult! Mindful of the warnings I did a dry run (well, wet run) with plain water to ensure the detergent tank didn't leak and I knew how to fit it. Similarly the dirty water tank, I didn't want dirty water all over the place - but it would be almost impossible for that to happen. br /Then I went live and found it wonderful. It does the job, is easy to store, is easy to move, it dries the carpet very well but, it is noisy! Two things I learnt; to modulate the rate at which you move the machine back when distributing the cleaning fluid - too slow and the carpet gets much more than is needed and the tank empties quickly. Second, the dirty water tank needs a really good clean at each emptying with water being run into the front slot to clean out packed fibers. Cleaning carpets is not a quick job - as I knew already. Buy one!

Reading the reviews I was somewhat reluctant to believe this machine would give me the results I had hoped for. But was I surprised! I was more than satisfied with the end result and had no problems with anything. It is easy to use and manoeuvre.The carpets came up clean though not like a new carpet but then I would not expect that. I would recommend this to anyone.

I guess the V-026 represents reasonable value at Amazon's price (50% off), but it is ultimately a frustrating machine to use. As stated in other reviews, the dirty water collection tank shuts off when only 1/3 full, even when using the carpet shampoo at a reduced strength to reduce foaming. br / br /You'll spend most of your time to-ing and fro-ing from the kitchen sink to empty it - my averagely sized 2 bed flat took ages to clean as a result of all the stoppages. Irritating when this seems to happen every square metre of carpet. Cleaning performance is fair it must be said, leaving my light coloured carpets looking fresher. The rotating brushbar seems to make no difference whether it is switched on or off though. br / br /I can see this cleaner being useful to spruce up the occasional rug or mop up spillages, but to tackle all the carpets in an average house it simply doesn't cut it with all the stoppages and repeated emptying and refillings. Approach with caution - probably worth it at the discounted price, but only just. br / br /Edited to add - it sounds like Concorde taking off too, very noisy! Minus another half star for this. br /

Well you're thinking of buying this model? If like me you're reluctant to part with your hard earned cash don't worry with this model! I read the other reviews and was nearly put off, however i could no longer stand my dirty tan carpet and this wee machine saved its life as i was going to replace it. My Vax came this morning and within half an hour it was sucking lots of dirty filthy water out of it. I can now invite people into my house in daylight now! I don't know why some have gave this bad reviews but i found it excellent value and a great washer just like it said on the tin...:-)
