A never ending flurry of imagination! March 14, 2008 Arway (Lancashire, England) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Mario is perfect in space! Hold up a tennis ball in front of you, and imagine a tiny Mario running around on it. That's the sort of thing you can expect here! br / br /From the moment you start it'll pull you in and never let go of you. I've not yet once got up early just to play a game before work, but this game made me do it.;) br / br /The controls are so simple. Run with the analog stick, 'A' button to jump, and a quick waggle of the remote will make Mario spin Crash Bandicoot-style to break objects open, or splatter Goombas. This is because jumping on enemy heads can be odd from a top-down view, as sometimes you'll be looking down from above at Mario, to give you a good zoomed out view of a small planet level. br / br /The visuals are classic Super Mario, with beautiful vibrant colours, Mario locales (blocks, pastel hills, Bowser forts) wrapped around levels shaped like balls, all with gorgeous star constellations in the background. And the space element doesn't make it feel sci-fi or anything like that - it's still classic Mario in feel. br / br /Instead of worlds being entirely flat, they're instead broken up into smaller segments and wrapped around spheres. This breaks worlds up, and makes them more fun because you're solving puzzles in chunks, rather than being chucked into a huge level to find your tasks. There are a few Mario 64-style flat levels though, but even some of these feature ball-shaped planet levels suspended above them - so there's a nice mix. The transition between both is done so well, you barely notice. Some levels are even disc-shaped, with structures on both sides of the disc that you can explore. Jump down a warp pipe on top of the disc, then spring out on the underside of the disc! br / br /Gravity plays a big part in puzzles too. You'll be able to run upside-down on levels, because gravity will keep Mario down. You can even leap upwards from one ball-shaped level, and you'll be pulled into the gravitational field of a nearby level, which you'll then stick to and be able to run and leap around on. It'll get you to think differently about the platforming. br / br /If that's not enough, there's tons of Mario enemies (Goombas, Koopas) and Warp Pipes that take you to bonus rooms, and you can point and collect colourful stars with the remote, and interact with other environmental features by pointing at them (with help of a little blue star cursor on the screen!). br / br /So fun. And it's always chucking new levels and fun concepts at you, so you're never waiting long before new places open up. Perfect for keeping kids and adults interested! Reminded me why I love games so much - definately the best 3D Mario platformer I've ever played, and one of my favourite games ever. br / br /The music and sound is some of the best I've ever heard from Nintendo, with some classic Super Mario Bros. 3 remixes, and orchestral tracks. Plus there's some amazing boss battles, and cool transformation mushrooms that turn you into a Bee and even a Boo Ghost! br / br /You'll also find yourself tilting your head a lot from all the weird angles you'll view the action from! One last great point - you'll never get lost! This is because the planet levels are so small that you'll see most of the level on the screen. ;) br / br /Hope they do a sequel!

Here we go! March 11, 2008 S. Bentley (North Yorkshire) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the inheritor of Super Mario 64 and Sunshine. As with those games, you travel to different areas or galaxies for themed challenges to find a star. As with Sunshine there are (sometimes interminable) story sections to take you from one part of the story to another. As with both games it's a lot of fun. br / br /Using the wii controller with this game is very easy to get used to. Much of the game involved making Mario spin by flicking your wrist, which allows him to activate different mechanisms, to jump higher, to swim faster, to pick items up and release them and even to fly. There is a little star cursor that you move across the screen as you are controlling Mario, which will pick up star bits or grab hold of pull stars. You also have the usual range of Mario maneuvers, the back flip, the triple jump, the long jump. So it will seem quite familiar. br / br /The gravity of the planets can take a little getting used to, especially if you move quickly from being right way up to upside down on the screen but that's part of the fun. Similarly, swimming, as in earlier games, can be a pain if you're trying to get Mario to catch a coin but it's a minor frustration. br / br /As with these other two games, there's also a nicely leisurely pace in most parts of the game: you have plenty of space to move around and don't have too many awkward jumps to make. Of course, there are a few parts of the game where there's a time limit which shakes you out of any complacency. The challenges are nicely different to keep things exciting. br / br /And the graphics are fantastic. The opening section with the meteor strike on the Mushroom palace demonstrates how far beyond the gamecube the Wii is. br / br /I don't think anyone could really be in doubt that Super Mario Galaxy would be a signature game for the Wii, but let me just confirm that it is.
So Much Better Than Sunshine March 9, 2008 Mr. J. H. Smith (Manchester, England) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
After being greatly dissapointed by Mario Sunshine I was quite wary of this game but those worries were quickly forgotten. As soon as you start the game you realise just how brilliant it is. The gameplay is fantastic and you can't expect anymore from the graphics. The new power-ups that mario gets across the game are really fun and innovative. One of the very few dissapointments of this game is the under usage of these power-ups especially flying Mario. Also the purple coin levels can be very frustrating. Overall though I think this is the most fun game on Wii and a must for any Wii owner.
Super Mario is back February 28, 2008 C. REILLY (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After being blown away with Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64, I was keenly waiting the release of Mario sunshine on the Gamecube, due to my disappoitmnet it turned out to be a bit of a dud, then came Mario Galaxy on the Wii, and boy did Nintendo bring the magic back with this one. Battle Marios arch enemies in space, all sounds a litlle weird but plays like a dream. If you are a fan of Mario you need this game, if you have a Wii you need this game..truly magical.
