The Babyliss for Men beard trimmer does a nice job at trimming your beard (unsurprisingly). I first had a go at just trimming a little off my beard and I was impressed at how it shaved all of the beard down to the same level - without "pulling" at any hairs (a problem I've had with some beard trimmers in the past). I then went full-on for the stubble effect and was impressed with the effect which made me look like I had a two-day beard growth. br / br /It has a solid feel and does an effective job. I also liked the fact that it is really low maintenance as it purports to be self-oiling (although only time will tell if this assertion is true). br / br /The only SMALL thing I didn't like was the amount of plastic packaging which I thought was a bit of overkill - but when I actually got into the item it felt like quality. br / br /You can, of course, also use it for other body parts (if that's your bag - no pun intended) but I have been able to keep it away from my wife (so far!) br / br /It is a really nice piece of kit and if you want a beard trimmer or a "stubble maker" then this is the item for you! br /

4 out of 5 stars Really useful if you're careful with it   October 28, 2008

This is a really useful piece of grooming kit if, like me, you hate being clean-shaven and prefer to keep a bit of stubble. The electronic comb-guard attachment is really nifty, and it's quite nice to have a degree of cutting accuracy to the half millimetre. I must say, the unit looks very smart, and there is an air of the space-aged shave about it as you set the LED length indicator on the front. I generally use the 1mm setting, which gives me a couple of days of stubble growth without having to shave every few days and wait for it to grow to the desired length, which I used to have to do! It's also useful for 'stubbly goattees' if you leave about 0.5mm at the sides of your face, then 1.5-3mm over the moustache and chin area. Likewise, it's great for trimming sideburns. br / br /What other reviewers say about the design flaw with the guard is worth bearing in mind, but it shouldn't really affect you if you're aware of the cutting head and are careful with using it. As long as you stick to careful, sweeping strokes with the plastic guard comb flat to the skin, you should find it as effective and useful as I have. If you go at it like a wild man, then yes, there might be a few bald patches here and there! Any tool can be ineffective if used in the wrong way. br / br /The charge lasts quite a while after the initial 16-hour charge (I left mine overnight), after which occasional recharges should keep it going nicely.
