3 out of 5 stars Hmmmm......   June 2, 2008

Hmmmm.... I guess you could say I'm an old duffer, but remember, I was only 18 when her first album came out ( I loved it!!!). This album in isolation is good. But Madge is trying WAY too hard to be young. She's not. Teaming up with Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Kanye West seems desperate. She should just mature with her music... not always try to be 20! She may have a mega bod.... but on the cover she looks like a hard faced slapper in boots!! br /Good album.... just not Madonna.

Apparently the top four artists ever are as follows : br / br /1) Elvis Presley (never wrote a song his entire career, excellent show-man, br / completely gorgeous voice and, from what i've witnessed, br / was pretty amazing in concert, sadly whipped away too br / early from us.) br / br /2)Cliff Richard (never wrote a song in his life, voice not too bad br / ,at least not as embarrassing as,like,Val Doonican, br / or Barry Manilow, but Cliff is as naff as Marie Osmond br / would be if trying to sound sexy on the phone, and, br / almost as cheesy as Bombalurina covering a Steps tune, br / he is however, still alive,i just don't know if i should br / be thankful for that,i'm pretty sure his fans are.) br / br /3)The Beatles (Four blokes from Liverpool, tuneful, cute, great songs br / written by varying members but the majority written by br / either Lennon or MacCartney, great in concert from br / evidence seen, not great voices but charismatic enough, br / innovative to the point where nothing since has had that br / profoundly affecting effect on the general public. All, br / so far of worthy merit yes?Two are now sadly gone, two br / remain active and MacCartney's work continues to br / ,thankfully flourish but not to the dizzying heights it br / once did.) br / br /Then at number 4 we have...yes,Madonna!!! br / (Writes her own stuff, collaboratively often, with her producers, who have all attested that her input outweighs their own 10 fold both musically and lyrically, she produces her own material, she tours extensively and vigorously, she DOES sing live but when the dancing and entertainment take a forefront she may lip-synch (yet to be entirely proved though). She's hitting 50 and still going strong and still delivering fantastic material,Hard Candy being her latest offering upholding her standard. Her stardom is most certainly not fading as we can see with each single making the top ten in the UK and most other European countries,Japan,USA and the rest of the world. br / br /Above her are six men in total (Elvis,Cliff and four Beatles). br /In my opinion,Elvis and Cliff don't deserve their status based simply on the fact that they didn't write their own stuff, which,i believe,is an essential part of whether or not someone has TALENT.So....that leaves The Beatles of which it took two blokes (mainly) to uphold their careers and yes,the beatles deserve their place because i can't deny they were excellent, excellent musicians and the world would probably be a much sadder place without their wonderful contributions to music. br /This,then,leaves us with a woman whose career has spanned 25 years,is still going strong,is still as popular and who has, seemingly, only been pipped at the post by the biggest BAND the world has ever seen. br / br /One day,the world will mourn the loss of this great, great artist, like we did when Elvis left the building,or when Lennon was stolen from us appallingly. br / br /Like it or not ,she's up there with the best and long may she, undoubtedly, remain the true Queen of Music, may she one day realise her deserved appreciation.... br / br /

I have nothing but respect for Madonna, 104 years old and still going strong. For every album sold it prolongs her life for an extra fifteen minutes. Buy this album, you're not a murderer, are you?

I had prepared myself to be disappointed by this CD; after all, the last time Madonna used big name established producers to give her a radio friendly glossy makeover was on the album Bedtime Stories. The less said of that collection the better, but Hard Candy is more than a commercial makeover it's actually a damn fine contemporary dance pop record. Madonna is not lost amongst the usual pops and whistles of Timbaland and Pharrell Williams, she asserts her domination over them on every track. Yes, the lyrics are a tad silly at times, but the musical grooves and Madonna's presence go a long way to make songs like the title track, Give It 2 Me and Heartbeat great. Not bad at all.
