5 out of 5 stars Umbelievable Printer   May 23, 2008

I love this printer, I did some research, read reviews to make sure I got exactly what I needed, I wanted a multipurpose printer. I wasn't expecting it too much of the photo printing but being able to print photos was a bonus. I can't believe how good the photo quality is, I am a carpenter and printer out my whole portfolio on the printer and the pics are superb, for my needs anyway. So it's worth the money just for the colour printer, so the fact you get all the other uses for the price is just amazing. br /It looks good enough to be left in a living room or somewhere where you don't want an ugly beast. It is easy to install, very easy and intuitive to use, it photocopies very well and really fast. Plus it is great for scanning, fast and easy to use, much better than my old scanner I used to have to plug in ever time I needed it, this is permanently connected, and I didnt have driver problems like I did with the old, I just installed the 2 cd's and then everything just worked. br /I also like the drawer where you can permanently leave paper in so that you don't have to feed paper one by one every time I wan to print, and when I do want to print something special then you place the paper in the rear feeder. br /Then the colour screen is fantastic too, it really helps make the use of this printer so easy. br /And if all that wasn't enough you can also fax which I havnt tried and you can scan negatives and slides which I havnt' tried yet. br /And it is very quiet!! And so fast. br /Also the fact that you have 7 inc cartridges is great because then you can replace them individually. I like the way the cartridges light up! very flash. br /Another little touch is if you print a document and forget to open the output lid it just pops open by itself to allow the paper to come out. br /The flexibility of being able to print from memory card, memory stick and direct from camera without having a computer is just amazing for people who don't have computers like my mum! br /The only downer I can think of is the horrific price of the ink. And I am too scared to use cheap ink in case I damage my beauty! br / br /And I just hope I don't have to deal with Canon customer services that lots of reviews I have read are on about. Sort it out Canon, You will loose customers with bad customer service! br / br /I am also very happy with the use, I have printed over 70 A4 prints, alot of them not too colorful and very light picture admittedly and only used one whole cartridges and 2 half's. br /

Print quality is great, as good as the photo lab I used to go to. The software is easier to use than previous versions. Many functions can be used without the pc. No linux drivers to speak of yet. It is not nearly as ink hungry as my previous printers. br / 1 problem though. It is Huge!!!! Its the mp610 on anabolic steroids. It will not fit on or near my desk. I fixed that with the the bu-20 bluetooth dongle. It now has its own place 10m away. br / br /It works better than i expected aside from it's size.

The prints quality are perfect. I made a photocopy of a a4 photo and printed it on an A4 glossy paper, the print out picture was so perfect you couldn't tell the difference between the original the copy (it was a color photo), very impressive. I actually bought this multifunctional printer to print photos, and the photo quality is also perfect. It came with lots of more features which is a bonus. Its super quiet and very fast about 35 second for a photo prints. It's a pretty big printer, but its also a scanner ect. And you don't need to have it connected to a pc to do a photocopy and print out photos. It is as it says professional quality printer. Another thing is the printer doesn't use alot of ink for the actual prints which is remarkable because the prints are perfect. it's abit pricey but for everything it does i believe its good value for money.

I read the reviews on here before ordering. When I came to setup the printer on my LAN I was very surprised at how easy it was - I really do not know why the other reviewer had any problems at all. The manual explained it very well, the only annoying thing is that you cannot configure the IP address from the printers panel, you need a USB lead (not included) and to install a utility on the PC. br /Also, you DO NOT need to have a PC switched on. I can easily print from my wireless laptop over the wired LAN (ie printer wired to router/hub). br /The only downside is the physical size, it isn't small - check the dimensions (I didn't and it came as a bit of a shock) br /The manuals are thick as they cover 16 languages with around 40 pages per language. They will not be featuring on my shelves. br /Haven't found any information on the true cost of printing but a colleague said that Canon are fairly good ... here's hoping! br /I would recommend this printer.

Just got the Canon Pixma MP970 from Amazon, delivered quickly. br / br /I am using a 20in iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo processor and want to use the printer via the ethernet network I have here in my small office, only one problem, the Canon software for OS X 10.4.11 does not see the printer on the network at all, even though I can ping it without any problems at all and the printer displays the correct IP Address and network information. br / br /I have downloaded the new set of drivers from the Canon website but still can't print via the network ... so if you want ethernet connectivity with OS X don't buy this printer !! br / br /It works OK via USB but it is a pain having to have it on the desk when I actually want it over with the Ethernet hub out of the way. br / br /Canon's support is useless ... they are nothing but a big facelss company who don't give a damn ! br / br /
