5 out of 5 stars Cheap, easy to use alternative to the iPod   July 24, 2008
Iain McGowan (Derbyshire, England)
If you're looking for a decent, cheaper, alternative to the all-powerful and omnipresent iPod, this is a good player to choose. br / br /It's really easy to download tracks onto the player - basically, all you have to do is drag and drop, or simply sync the player with your chosen play-list if you use Windows Media Player. It plays all the MP3 and wma files I have without a problem, though I haven't tried video files yet. br / br /For those like me who hate trawling through manuals, the controls are really easy to figure out and you should have the hang of just about anything basic by playing around with it for 5 minutes. If you need more memory, there's a slot for a micro SD card, so you can boost it's memory capacity if need be. br / br /The only little niggle I found was that the 'shuffle' mode isn't quite as random as I'd like - occasionally, if you listen to the player in shuffle mode then turn it off for a while (e.g. when at work), it seems to play back exactly what you listened to previously, in reverse order, when you next turn it on and press play. br / br /Having said this, it's only a minor niggle with a really decent little player if your on a tight budget that will beat most players in it's class. A sound investment and definitely worth it's price.

By far the best player I've used but it's not perfect! br / br /Unlimited storage! Ok so NOT unlimited but if you run out of space just pop a microSD card in the slot. Since 4Gb cards are about 7 quid? That means ALOT of storage. br / br /Easy to use user interface, even my girlfriend can use it ;) br / br /Good video playback but not perfect. A decent size screen for watching re-runs of south park on the way to uni :) But it breaks up the vids into 15 min chunks, the player automatically connects them all together but there is a noticeable pause between chunks. br / br /Customisable EQ; I'm not sure if the Ipod has this function. But its something I've never seen before on any player I've had, you usually get the presets: rock, pop etc but depending on how good your headphones are some presets don't sound right, you might want just abit more treble or bass on your rock preset to compensate for poor headphone response. No problem, you can do that! br / br /Very good battery life, I think I read 20 hours vs 14 for the nano. Though to be honest I'm abit dubious about that. The longest I've used mine for was 4 hours continuous, and the meter was about a quarter empty. BUT if the battery goes on your sansa, just buy a replacement kit remove 4 screws and fix it yourself, none of this sending to apple, which YOU have to pay postage for, and then pay for the replacement parts and shipping back to you. br / br /Easy to use software, just drag and drop your mp3's, wma's or whatever like you would with a pen drive. No awful itunes here! Videos aren't as easy however, with vids and pics you need to use the software but that's easy enough; click "add media" navigate to the stuff you want to add then click "convert" job done. br / br /As much as I like the sansa it's not perfect. The start up time is far too long. The headphones that come with are ok for freebies but that's not saying much. The disabled radio, ok that's the EU's fault not SanDisk's and I'm sure with a naughty update hack you could get it working, since the hardware is still in the unit. The photos are crap, I tried putting my timetable on there but there's no zoom function which makes it useless for me at least. br / br /All in all, for the price you can't go wrong. I would have preferred a zoom function in place of the voice recorder, and the 15min video thing seems abit pointless but you can't have everything. br /

I never write reviews EVER, but this warrants it. I love love the Sansa e260 it's amazingly easy to use far exceeds the equivalent Ipod in looks and usability. If you are a pc user then this is the MP3 player for you it really is just plug and play!

5 out of 5 stars Great gadget especially used with Rockbox   March 16, 2008
Gerdsooz (Winchester, United Kingdom)
Well made gizmo (with no radio unless you specifically get the ones with the radio "hadware" costing more; it's not a firmware issue any more). If you are a technogeek you can put rockbox (an additional and alternative free system) on this player and extend its functionality beyond belief (including support for 8gb microSD card). You'd be wise to get a decent headphone to get the best sound out of this player.

I've had the problem where if I put TOO MUCH music on the thing (so there's less than 10mb of memory left) it will take a full minute or more to boot up and then display the message NOT ENOUGH SPACE FOR MUSIC DATABASE. But if you connect to your PC in this state it doesn't show up. Only thing to do then is to format it and erase everything and start again unless you want to keep listening tho the same music over 'n over again. ANyone else noticed this?
