superb little sony bluetooth video walkman! July 28, 2008 surfer pete (Suffolk, UK.) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this Sony Bluetooth Walkman 8GB NWZ-A828K as an upgrade to an old Sony Network Walkman I have and overall I've been very impressed with it. The player is well made with an aluminium body and has easy to use controls and a bright, clear screen/user interface combined with excellent battery life. br / br /In the box you get both Bluetooth headphones and wired in-the-ear style headphones with different sized ear-buds for comfort and fit. The neck-band style Bluetooth headphones have a reasonable 10m range, their own mains charger and basic controls such as: volume/shuffle etc, on the right hand side earpiece. Although, I found the wired in-the-ear headphones to provide better sound quality. br / br /The player's default sound quality is very good and has excellent depth and definition in the mid to high range tones. I found that I needed to tweak the bass levels a little bit for my own taste and this is easy to do with numerous options available for personalising enhancing the sound as listed below: br / br /Graphic Equalizer modes: None, Heavy, Pop, Jazz, Unique, Custom 1, Custom 2.(you can tweak the levels and Clear Bass in the custom modes) br /VPT Surround sound modes: None, Studio, Live, Club, Arena, Matrix,Karaoke. br /DSEE sound enhancer: on/off br /Clear Stereo: on/off br /Dynamic Normalizer: on/off br /AVLS (volume limiter): on/off br / br /Obviously, sound quality can vary slightly between file formats, bit rates and quality of the original source recording, but most of the tracks I've downloaded and CDs I've copied to it have a deep, rich quality to them, which shows Sony have put some serious effort into the engineering of this little player. br / br /Transferring files to the player is fairly easy and you can use Windows Media Player, Windows Explorer or the supplied Sony Media Manager Software. Although the Sony ATRAC file format is no longer supported, the supplied software includes a file conversion tool, if you have an older Sony player. br / br /I have read some criticisms of the video functions of this player on a few review websites and think this is mainly to do with transferring video to the player rather than the playback quality itself, which like the music photo gallery playback is very good. br / br /You can't really transfer copy protected material to the player and transfer file conversion times can be quite lengthy. Most file formats are supported, but you can upgrade to Sony Media Manager Pro on-line for about $12/ 7 for extra functions and file support. br / br /Overall, I'd say this is an excellent little player from Sony and avoids being locked into Apple only stuff and the whole ipod poor sound quality/herd mentality scenario and I'd recommend it to anyone, although I did knock a star off the rating because the video transfer isn't as seamless as I'd hoped it would be... br /
Bluetooth disappointment July 27, 2008 K. Guntrip 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sony NWZA828K 8GB Video Walkman with wireless headphones br /Easy to use? - Yes - can't fault it br /Simple to download from PC, logical controls etc br /BUT, when using Bluetooth to listen through the wireless headphones, despite having adjusted the Sound Quality Mode, the media breaks up significantly which absolutely ruins the experience. br /Using connected headphones is fine - but this wasn't the point of buying the player. The memory is good - I have music, audio books and DVD's loaded with plenty of additional storage space available. But am sooo dissapointed.
Very disappointed July 26, 2008 I. Johnson (England) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
This little player looks great and is the perfect size for slidine in a shirt pocket. Its so small and light you could forget it is there. br /I purchased this only to find problems with the Blutooth connection. The mp3 player would not connect/pair with other bluetooth devices other than the supplied bluetooth headphones. br / br /When I listened to music through the bluetooth headphones the sound quality was poor and the player kept loosing connection with the headphones, meaning the music kept stopping and starting. br /I was so disappointed as the concept was excellent. br /I ended up using normal wired headphones and the sound quality was excellent. br / br / br /Battery life was ok, when I had some of the bass boost settings on the battery drained quite quickly, overall the battey performance was average compared with current plyers on the market. br / br /The player itself is very easy to use, transfering data (music, photo's etc) was very quick and easy. br /Video playback seemed very smooth, the screen produces sharp images, however it does seem a little bit too small in my opinion. br / br /Without the bluetooth this is just an average mp3 player that does everything you expect. There are no extras such as games or calenders etc. The sound quality through the bluetooth headphones was not very good, I preferred the music through my wired headphones which left me thinking "why did I bother buying this model?" Despite the headphones you dont get a lot of quality kit for your money. br / br /I have obsolutly no brand loyalty etc so ended up returning it and paying a little extra for the i-pod touch.

Yet to use properly so cannot comment on audio properties etc, althhough experience with other Somy MP3 players has been very positive. br /
