Classic, innocent, 80s fun! June 7, 2007 Ian Yarn (Swindon, UK) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
The Rubiks Cube is a living piece of toy history. Not only is it a classic puzzle, it has become a style icon that represents the 80s. br / br /A simple cube with different colours on each of it's 6 sides. What you do is mix up the colours by turning the various moving sides, and then try to get the colours back to their original side. Sounds simple enough, anybody can do one side or two, but then as you try to do more one little move erases your work on another side! This is the simple beauty of the cube. If you can do the whole thing it might reveal if you are a genius. Its fun and its frustrating that at times makes me want to throw it at the wall! Yet there is a little bit of magic about it that keeps me trying to unravel its mysteries.
I loved the early 80s when this was big May 26, 2007 Crazy Andy 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
For me, this was one of the best toys ever invented. The concept is very simple, but the combinations run into the zillions, which means that you can't solve it by chance. br /However, one can have fun working out how to solve it, then once you've done that, impress your mates by applying the same principles over and over again. There isn't that much to remember once you know how. br /The main problem is in the mechanism and the stickers. These things don't last forever, and can start falling about once they've been played with quite a lot. Also, I have experienced the paint fading on some of the stickers. So it could be much more durable than it is. br /However, this is definitely one of my all time favourite toys.
A Classic Toy May 25, 2007 M. Chong 5 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is a classic toy and is great for all ages. It can be frustrating at times though.
Generally Good March 25, 2007 Mr. B. J. H. Gao (Flitwick, Bedfordshire, UK) 6 out of 11 found this review helpful
The cube is quite good overall - its a bit stiff at first, but after a couple of days it gets smoother. However - once you build up speed the stickers start coming off - I've got around that by applying clear varnish around the sticker edges... br / br /I'm told that you can lubricate the thing with something silicon based, but I've yet to try this..
Great puzzle, shame about the solution booklet March 4, 2007 Mr. M. G. Li (UK) 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this cube as a gift for a friend, and wanted to see how easy to apply/learn the included solution was. The first six steps of the supposed "7 Step Solution Guide" went fine, but the seventh step was a complete shambles which, rather than completing the cube, messed a large portion of it up (luckily I know what I'm doing, even if Drummond Park don't). Hopefully this will be put right in future solution books, but until then buyers will have to go elsewhere for a solution (there are plenty of good online resources for this, and there is in fact another booklet at www.rubiks.com which might be correct). br / br /This seems to be one of the only Rubik's Cubes with a decent mechanism available at the moment, and the puzzle itself is a pretty good one: smooth easy turns, yet tightly held together (not sure about durability as I only received it today, but it seems pretty sturdy). I'd always recommend the Rubik's Cube as a great puzzle, and this seems to be a good quality version of it. Perhaps the incorrect solution is a blessing in disguise too - it will actually be an achievement to complete it. br / br /So for the puzzle, I'd probably give five stars (I've been playing with my Cube (a different brand) for almost three years now and haven't grown tired of it), but overall I have to deduct a point for that solution book.
