4 out of 5 stars Easy Peasey!   May 29, 2008
Steven Bailey (Kent, England)
I can't believe how easy this remote was to set up. I was using an old 'one for all' remotes and I decided to splash the cash on a top remote. It didn't take me too long to set up, it found my products straight away and I love the way the activies work. Once I set it up on my computer I updated my remote and all I do is press one button to watch sky or dvd or play my 360. Turns my tv amp into the correct inputs on each activity and it remembers what I did last. br / br /It's a sexy looking remote, my mates are jealous! Haven't had any problems with it freezing, there is new software which aparently has fixed the problem so go get the latest software if you've had issues!

5 out of 5 stars Touch-tastic   May 28, 2008

Having used 5 different remotes for the last 12 months I thought it was time to get into the 21st Century. A techie friend of mine recommended the Harmony 1000 to me and quite frankly I've never looked back. In fact, I can't believe I didn't get a Harmony sooner! br / br /The set-up and connection was utterly effortless and very straightforward. Just a bit of question answering and input - all done very quickly. The one-touch control is really easy to use and the large colour screen makes functionality and navigation a breeze. Aside from that I also think that it looks visually impressive - a very cool piece of kit! br / br /Touch wood I haven't had any issues with the control freezing but I did check this before buying and was told that this issue had been resolved with a recent software update. I was also reassured about my purchase recently after noticing HiFi had given it 5 stars. br /

Has the problem with Apple OSX Leopard been rectified or is it sill not compatible?

3 out of 5 stars not bad, but you should probably go for the Harmony One instead   March 4, 2008

I bought this recently, and was quite pleased with it - setup was trivial, taking about 30 mins or so - most of that downloading and updating the software and figuring out the model numbers of my various pieces of hardware. I had 4 remotes to mimic, and two basic operations (watch DVDs, play music), and having the remote control them was very simple. br / br /Where the remote falls down is the reliance on the touchscreen and the general shape; if you want to fast forward through a movie, for example, you need to hold the remote in one hand, find the right key on the screen with your other hand, and then keep casting your eyes back and forth from the remote to the TV to make sure that your finger is still on the right button and that you still want to forward through the movie - this would be less of a problem with a narrower device where you could hold it and operate it with one hand. The lack of positive feedback is a huge negative (that I didn't really think about before trying the harmony 1000). br / br /If you tend to start watching a dvd (or playing music or whatever) and then don't touch the remote till you're done, the harmony 1000 will be great; if, like me, you like to fast forward/rewind etc. all the time, then you will probably quickly become frustrated. br / br /Additionally, because the touch screen contains most of the functions (far more use could have been made of the button pannel to the right of the screen, IMO), and the buttons have to be quite large, you also have the problem of having to switch through a large number of screens to access different types of operations - the playback controls on one page, number buttons on another, general functions on another (or rather more likely 6 other pages); I'm sure that with time and patience you could arrange the buttons in a better way, but I had neither. br / br /In the end I gave the Harmony 1000 to a friend and replaced it with a Harmony One; a more recent and much more user friendly device - cheaper too. br / br /The Harmony 1000 looks great, and does pretty much what you expect of it, but before buying, consider how you use your remotes; if you fiddle a lot, then get one with real buttons. br / br /Oh the customer service is fantastic; answered the call after a couple of rings, went straight to the help, and the rep answered my questions and fixed my problems immediately. Great service.
