I rate the film five stars... and will buy a new longer edition! July 5, 2004 Alejo (Andorra) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
To mangle the duration of films in the editing room is specially silly when releasing them in DVD. br /This is my favorite film on the Crimean war by far, curiously enough I think the action at the river ALMA is better done then the charge of the light brigade herself... but this is only my humble opinion. br /The cast is brilliant an performs very well... and as drawings go the animated sequences are also a must see. br /Made as an antiwar film still reflects the daring courage of the soldiers of the time... br /One of my favorites. br / br /ADB
Charge of the Illiterate Brigade January 31, 2004 P J Ashley (Oundle, Peterborough United Kingdom) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful film on a hugh scale. Tony Richardson was one of the most literate and provocative directors working in the UK in the 60s. What a pity then that whoever put the quote on this DVD cover couldn't even spell 'extraordinary'.
Underrated arthouse movie of an army theme. November 15, 2001 Jonathan Bryce (Waitakere NZ) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
An interesting movie - it covers Lord Cardigan's Cherrybums from their time in England up to the charge. The battle at Balaklava is only a small part of it: - most of the film is taken up with army politics, Nolan's antics (Nolan was the young officer who gave the vague order to charge) and Cardigan himself. Trevor Howard is in fine form. The cartoon sequences - though strange - are fitting in a post-Python world.
