4 out of 5 stars Great fun for everyone!   January 29, 2005

A brilliant animation film for all ages! Buy this DVD with complete confidence in having a great time watching the action-packed adventures of Woody and his colourful toy friends, including Rex the dinosaur and lovable Mr. Potato Head. Woody's comfortable life as Andy's favourite toy is shaken when a new, spiffy space-toy Buzz Lightyear arrives on the scene. Of course Woody puts up a brave show, but jealousy gets the better of him and knocks Buzz out of sight. The other toys don't take kindly to this, leaving Woody no option but to go out and find Buzz to make amends. The adventures will have you gripping your seats - this is no soppy honey story for a change, nor is there aggression .. even though Sid's toys next door can be a bit scary for the little (and not so little) ones. Toy Story is remarkably realistic, toys being perfect for animations more than ants or fish. The Making of Toy Story on the DVD will probably prompt you to press the play button again to marvel at the creative genius of the production. See this Toy Story first, and then quickly get Toy Story 2.

5 out of 5 stars A genuine classic   January 20, 2005

The start of the amazing Pixar success story.pA brilliant film that works on a number of different levels - appealing to children and adults without resorting to in-jokes and movie references. There are also complex subtexts addressing Woody coming to terms with not being the favourite and Buzz coming to terms with the fact that he is actually a toy.pThe animation is fantastic (it was totally groundbreaking when the film was first released in the cinemas). The vocal talent is used supremely well - I am not sure that Tom Hanks has ever done anything better; Tim Allen certainly hasn't (unless it is Toy Story 2).pThis is a five-star film (if not more).

I cant understand where you people are coming from, especially spike. How old are you (90), goodness sake, people today just cant appreciate films for the depth that they portray, you look at the inital layer and judge. Get some emotions man

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate way to watch the Ultimate movies   May 13, 2004

I know it's hard to believe, but it was only recently that I watched Toy Story 1 and 2. Having purchased the Ultimate Toy Box DVD Edition, I realised what I have been missing out on for all these years. Do not dismiss these films as childs play, they are pure class. Compared to Disney films of late, Pixar are miles ahead of the field. As an avid Disney collector, it hurts me to say that, but it's true.pThe attention to detail and story plot are there to be seen. For example in Toy Story 2, when Mr Potato Head is packing for the trip, Mrs Potato Head packs his angry eyes in case he needs them!pI've not seen Monsters Inc or Finding Nemo, but you can guarantee that they will now be pulled out of the cupboard.pThe third disc of extras goes into great detail about how the films were created, etc, probably something for the adults.pEssential purchase, although the price does seem a bit steep.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent animation movie!   May 8, 2004
I am not so keen of animation movies. I only watched them when I was a kid. Then I watched Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc. They were hilarious and enjoyable. I bought Toy Story as it is not available anymore in my country. It was an excellent movie, both Woody and Buzz Lightyear are likeable characters. The plot is good and doesn't have many confusing and silly twists. It is just a simple fun movie for kids. I think it is 3 times better than children movies with real actors nowadays. Let's hope Pixar finds a good distributor soon.
