Would-be Kubricks or stay-at-home Spielberg can now fulfil their movie-making dreams with a camera and IMovieshop Deluxe/I. The principle is simple enough: by using its on-board tutorials and step-by-step instructions you get to master the basic (and eventually more complex) techniques of at-home movie editing. pFirst you use the software to convert your DV, AVI, MPEG-1 or Quicktime formatted video clips into easier-to-use DVD or VCD formats. Then you drag 'n' drop your various rejigged video clips into one uberclip, creating something more akin to a feature presentation (at this point the software lets you stretch and slice your clips so they dovetail neatly). Once you've done that you can and indeed should add in the on-disk music, add your own voiceover, create some nifty special effects--you can even tack on clever title sequences, groovy credit reels, special framing devices, and so on. pFinally, when you're happy with your first DIY Hollywood production, you can then export the new video film on to your camcorder, or save them to videotape, CD or DVD. You can even share your wares on the Net, if you really want everybody to see how daft you looked at your wedding. Of course, there is a drawback. What IMovieshop/I cannot give you is the artistic eye of a Zefferelli--but apart from this it is an excellent one-stop movie making package. --ISean Thomas/I
