Very good, educational and kids love it. Nearly as good as Jump Ahead software for kids.

5 out of 5 stars Could be Started earlier than 6yrs depending upon the Child.   August 13, 2004

'Reader Rabbit' has been around for twenty years now and has remained a favourite, especially with childen who have been 'weaned' onto a PC with the magical help of 'Reader Rabbit' and 'Sam the Lion', friends who appear throughout the whole series, maintaining that all-important point of familiarity with young children.brThis three-CD set moves on from the previous packages aimed at quite young children and aims to further build upon the learning curve already achieved, by the completion of the earlier tasks.brThe software retains the 'fun' aspect throughout, but the child is learning all the time as the 'tasks' get slightly harder with relative ease.brIf already familiar with the younger software sets, we believe that this set could be started earlier than the age stated.brIt is a cute and safe programme to leave a younger child alone with and as they progress it is easy to check on how they are doing without peering over their shoulder every five minutes! brImportant to us is the fact that the levels are saved so the child can carry on from where he/she left off on a previous visit, as the level is saved when the child logs out.pThe programme aims to develop Maths, Reading, Year 2 - children aged 6-8 years.brOlder children who already have 'hands-on' experience may find the graphics too basic!brHaving said that the content is very good and serves as a useful 'revision' tool if it is the first visit to the 'Reader Rabbit' learning programme.pThe Maths programme includes, Number Work:- Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying Dividing; Counting Money; Estimating; Telling the Time; Solving Basic Equations; Measuring; Area Length.pThe Reading programme includes:- Building Vocabulary; Comprehension; Superlatives; Rhyming Words; Multiple Syllables; Compound Words; Consonant Blends; Long Short Vowels; Creativity Writing and Story Endings.pThe Year 2 Programme aims to develop:- Reading, Comprehension, Creative Writing, 'Carry/Borrow' Subtraction, Fractions Multiplications, Complex Vowels, Nouns, Verbs Adjectives, Geometrical Shapes and Science Ecology. pA popular and successful programme, we would recommend buying this, especially at the excellent price Amazon are offering it at!

5 out of 5 stars Superb educational value   January 22, 2004

I am a big fan of the Reader Rabbit educational software series. My daughter is currently five years old and she has come to love Reader Rabbit and Sam the Lion. These characters remain a familiar constant throughout the series. pThis three-CD set follows on nicely from previous Reader Rabbit packages aimed at younger children; the regular references back to tasks completed in that software help to build upon educational value already received. Reader Rabbit offers a very interractive form of education - in particular my daughter loves recording her voice as she reads the on-screen books available at each stage, and playing them back to herself. Having heard the pre-recorded story page-by-page she is able to match her inflections thereby improving her reading.pMost importantly though, all the games are fun, and they get progressively more difficult as your child moves through the various levels. As a parent, I am able to keep track of how my child is coping with the tasks and I am able, in this version, to open up more games early if I choose to do so. The software saves the child's profile upon exit so we don't have to start from scratch next time.pThere are various touches which set the Reader Rabbit software apart from the rivals. For example, your child can click on any of the background sprites or set pieces and find that most produce some form of sound and animation - very cleverly all of these fit in with the educational value of that particular level. pThis is a set of software I feel comfortable leaving my daughter playing with while I go and do other things. I know that my daughter is learning, and that she is having fun, and that she isn't going to kill my PC! Remarkable stuff, and cheap at the price. I wish I'd bought my copy from Amazon and I've learned that for next time.
