5 out of 5 stars A useable interface that is straight-forward!   September 2, 2008
I have just bought this product and am delighted with it! It was so easy to install and use. I can easily run Windows XP Pro alongside my Mac OS X with no hiccups at all! I have used different Virtual Machine software in the past that impacted a great deal on my system performance but this is a breathe of fresh air! I recommend it for those who need the stability of a Mac but have to use 'Windows-only' tools for some of their work. Its great!

5 out of 5 stars VMWare Fusion for Mac is a winner!   August 13, 2008
VMware Fusion (Mac)

After converting to Mac a few years ago I still required a MS Windows interface, and so purchased 'Parallels' as it was the better rated software at the time (so I determined), but it had its flaws.

I sort of gave up the idea of running virtual interfaces until recently. My job as an Electrical Engineering Instructor requires me to work mainly with MS Windows, but I prefer using my Mac.

Recently I had been getting marketing e-mails from the developers of VMWare Fusion for Mac and succumbed to the claims they were making. I'm glad I did and have had a flawless installation. I use the open source office programs mainly and haven't yet tested the 'gaming' side of things (and probably won't). My experience with this software leads me to conclude that 'it does what it says on the tin' - it's as simple as that.

There was just one issue with my Mobile Broadband. If I accessed the internet via the Mac interface whilst in Windows, it seemed to auto-disconnect after about 5 minutes. However, I plugged the dongle in whilst in Windows; it detected it, installed it and the internet connection remained strong... that'll do for me thank you very much.

If you are a Mac user and have a copy of the Windows OS, then you may as well get the VMWare Fusion for Mac if you require running both systems.

5 out of 5 stars It works pretty well within limits   April 19, 2008
I tried Parallels and had no end of hassle with it. VMFusion seems alot more stable as most of the other reviewers have said. There are a couple of niggles though. I wouldn't recommend using your Bootcamp partition as a virtual machine as, on my mac it caused a few hangs. It works fine though if you create a separate Virtual machine to run within OSX and keep Bootcamp for when you need to run Windows natively. Also, you need to be careful when connecting external USB drives to a VM as they can become inaccessible to OSX until you disconnect from Windows. Apart from that it seems to work fine! Speed is good under XP even when working with graphics rich apps like Fireworks et al.

For 50 it is a good buy. Recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant product - Was the catalyst to get me to change to a Mac   January 14, 2008

VMWare is 100% reliable and everything I could ever want.

Let me tell you about my application.

I'm a website developer programming on Microsoft SQL databases and ASP for a living. Unfortunately I need to be able to work from time to time on my laptop so if I wanted to go the way of the Mac, I needed a way to develop and test code on it.

I've managed to instal windows server, SQL server and Visual Studio onto a VMWare image with no problem at all. I can code in windows, host the asp on IIS in windows server and heres the cool bit, I can actually view the page using safari or firefox on the mac (by browsing to the IP address of the virtual machine).

I've also go linux images loaded too so VMWare still has all it's normal features for under 50.

6 star product - I'm very impressed

5 out of 5 stars Best VM software for desktops that I have ever used.   December 2, 2007

I have used VMWare Workstation and Virtual PC in the PC platform and now I'm using VMWare Fusion on the Mac. This software is simply put very good.

It installs a virtual machine in very little time with almost no interaction from the user. The machines run fast and the Unity feature is great, allowing you to run the Windows apps out of the Windows desktop in the Finder. You can see the apps in the doc and launch apps from the VMWare menus.

Suspending and resuming VMs is also fast and it doesn't use too many resources on the host machine, allowing you to run some pretty heavy applications in the Mac while running the VM as well.

I haven't tested the 3D features as I don't play games and don't do much 3D on Windows, so I can vouch for them, but for what I need VMWare Fusion is perfect.
