It would be great if I could get this installed August 18, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you're a novice, don't touch this product. I view myself as having a reasonable knowledge of pc's and bought this upgrade for several reasons. 1)my windows xp has played up for ages and even though I've reinstalled it it won't let me fully install service pack 3 and 2) I want to be able to provide easy remote assistant to my mother who is on vista, and my husband's laptop is on vista. Although I've experienced a few problems with vista on their pcs it still made sense to upgrade. I carried out the vista upgrade check (as per microsoft's website) which said this product would be fine on my pc, and I checked the side of the box etc when it arrived, before opening, and it says that it's fine for 32-bit. But when it comes to installing, I'm refused the option to upgrade being told I must clean install instead. If i select clean install it tells me i can't do that as i need to reformat my drive to ntfs format first and gives the command to type at command prompt. type the command and it's not recognised. When i check the help pages I'm told that clean install of vista may be required if the pc is installed with an early 32-bit xp as opposed to a later version - but the box says it's fine for 32-bit. What is going on!!! Although I've now found plenty of instructions for re-formatting one of the hard drive partitions, I've reached the point where I don't want to risk my drive for the sake of an upgrade, and I thoroughly regret wasting all that time and money on what should have been a very straight forward process.
Annoying siftware! August 9, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The only thing I want to say is... I really miss XP (which is not perfect, but at least do not make me lost so much of my time). I have had problems installing other software in the Vista operative system, and it is always asking me questions about plug-in and the system is always warning you about the software you are installing. Also I have had problem with the USB ports, because sometimes they are not detected. I would say that the developer tried to do some improvements in XP, but unfortunately the result is a very complicated piece of software.
Problem free installation and Vista is great July 20, 2008 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I upgraded from Windows XP expecting problems and having to do a clean installation afterwards, but there were no problems at all. The installation ran smoothly and Vista ran perfectly. The Windows Update found all the drivers and things I needed to run my peripherals. Every application installed on my PC still works perfectly. I have switched off "User Account Control" because it did prevent me checking email with Outlook and I couldn't be bothered to reinstall it. I had started to have problems with XP, applications were opening slowly, sometimes I had to shut down the PC by holding down the power button, etc. Now with Vista, all the problems have gone and I am sure the PC is working much faster. I am delighted.
