will do the job January 5, 2009 stephen Luff (Worthing, Sussex United Kingdom) I ordered the item in the hope that it would entice me to switch from net objects fusion which I am very familiar with. Firstly I thought the interface looked quite advanced-user looking. I guess thats a good thing if you're into fiddling about with all sorts of positioning. At first glance I'm not a fan of the type of templates that have this box within a background look. I find it too stereo-typed. It does have some very pretty templates though and I would image with some effort it would perform pretty well. Overall though it didn't blow me away and get me excited to convert my two full websites away from net objects fusion to webplus.
Excellent for the pop-web culture January 3, 2009 Mark R. Bannister (London, England) If you need to create websites that are as eye-catching as the cover of your favourite pop album, then look no further and buy WebPlus X2! It really does what it says on the packet, it provides a fully-functional and easy-to-use interface and the websites you create with X2 will look professional. While it integrates many of the features that will be familiar to users of other Serif software, those who are not familiar with the way Serif layout and organise their tools may be a little lost and will want to spend many hours playing with the tutorials. The tutorials themselves are generally very helpful, although at times I must admit it took me a while to figure out which icon or button or toolbar they were referring to (more screenshots would be useful). Avoid this product if you are impatient and want to create a website with 3 clicks. br / br /WebPlus X2 creates a class of website that I would term "pop-web". It's a look that is classy and is more than adequate for many needs, but which cries out "production line". While you can mark your websites with your own individuality of course, by selecting graphics and deciding upon layout, one restriction - the width of the web page - is fixed. If you can't fit your design into 800 pixels wide, then you need to look at buying a different product. However, on the flip side, if you want your website to have this look, then there is no better product on the market and you should get out your wallet now because you have found an excellent bargain! This is leagues apart from infant products such as WebSite X5 Evolution. br / br /WebPlus allows you to import existing websites, and while this is generally quite good, be aware that no import can be perfect. For example, X2 has trouble getting table formatting correct, doesn't seem to know what to do with frames, doesn't import anchors and ignores pre-format tags. However, this product has such an array of useful and creative tools for formatting text and graphics, and optimising download speeds, that you probably don't want to import websites that were created by another product, as they will not take advantage of these features. br / br /In conclusion, an excellent product for creating a particular type of website, as long as you are willing to invest the time to learn how to use the tools properly. Superb value for money. The other products in the Serif range are also well worth investigating. br /
Makes life so easy! December 25, 2008 Jon Bond (UK) I've attempted to build websites from the ground up many times over the past few years. I began attempting HTML, but due to my laziness resorted to alternatives such as Microsoft Publisher (urgh!), dreamweaver and fireworks. Sadly, none of these were simple to use, other than Publisher, which just wasn't suitable. br / br /Serif's web plus X2 is completely different however. It will look familiar to anyone who is used to older versions of Microsoft office, and the menu system is very simple to navigate. Tool bars are easily movable, and relocatable and the software is brimming with features to make your website stand up to modern standards. br / br /Of course, just because menus are easy to use, doesn't mean that the software makes it necessarily very easy to create something magnificent first go. I found myself getting completely lost; dragging elements around, losing things in my pages, warping objects. It all looked a horrific mess. The only real flaw with software is that it contains too many features. A lot are wasted on the typical person, and makes the entire software daunting and immensely unfriendly to those who are starting from scratch. Sometimes what you require has a funny name, a confusing image, or is just hidden in drop down menus haunted my unnecessary objects. br /It appears that Serif are aware of this, however, and try their hardest to remedy it. This isn't done by restrictive "beginner" or "advanced" mode selection at startup, as I have seen in other products, but instead comes with several fantastic tutorials in PDF format. These tutorials teach you step by step how to build a (very rigidly designed) site which will give you something decent in no time. One of the few flaws with them however is the lack of creative freedom. They give you specific instructions ("enlarge to 663 pixels") rather than general methods to get things done but the tutorials, as I have since tested, can be easily generalized. br / br /The only other flaw with these tutorials is minor, but an annoyance nonetheless. Rather than maybe being inbuilt, the fact that they are PDF means having a different window open. Switching between windows is disorientating, and when told to hit the "site tab" it can leave the user confused; often having to switch back and forth between PDF and X2, just to make head and tails of the instructions given. It's a minor inconvenience though. If you are trying to make a website, you'll get over this pretty quickly as you learn the ropes. br / br /The tutorials are so useful because they do cover every aspect of website creation you could hope for. There are plenty of template sites that it will teach you how to build which cover all types and purposes, meaning that, even if your content is unique the style you desire will never be too far from a tutorial. To get the features you need just open the tutorial and it will give you locations in the software, how to best utilise it and away you go! br / br /All in all, and excellent piece of kit. It comes with some nice resources, and interactive drop down boxes/navigation bars are very simple and quick to include in the site. It may not have the most concise of mark-up practices, but what the software produces appears clean and speedy on my PC. br / br /I definitely recommend it. br /
Not the most intuitive software ever December 23, 2008 Dodster (UK) I like a program that is intuitive and obvious right from the start, and I have to say this wasn't one of those. However, with a bit of time and effort, I may eventually find my way around this tool and achieve a fairly decent webpage although the coding is not so easy to edit in any other software once the page has been created. br /If you don't mind a bit of a learning curve at the beginning, then I think this is adequate for what it is. br /
Easy and untuitive, makes you feel (and look) like a webmaster in no time at all! :-) December 23, 2008 Rocket of Desire! (UK) Amazing software, easy to use, intuitive and you just pick up things as you go along - best I've ever used to be honest. br / br /I wanted to update one of my websites but kept putting it off for years (3 to be exact!)as I was worried that I would make a mess of it and it would take me weeks to do and would end up being worse than my original site. br / br /I shouldn't have worried as over just 2 weekends, probably about 8 hours in total, I managed to not just update my site but give it a new lease of life, add graphics, more photos, design a logo, upload everything so easily it wasn't true - and above all it's fun and you actually feel like you're learning as you go along. br / br /Quite simply the easiest, most intuitive wed design software I've ever had the pleasure to use - and it was and still IS a pleasure to use it.
