Amazon.co.uk Review
BJump Ahead 2000: Nursery/BBR A team of friendly animals invite you to climb aboard their bus as soon as you have installed this CD-ROM. Simply type in your name on a clipboard and the cheerful bus starts up and drives you into the town. P You can visit the bakery, which resembles an enormous pink birthday cake, go to the fire station or play on the merry-go-round. The imaginative town automatically generates all kinds of sounds from birds singing to noisy police car sirens and offers a number of fun educational games. P In the bakery, young children are invited to ice a cake. Each right move is praised and rewarded with stars. And in the fire station children can click around to match different objects--if they find two the same then the teddy bears can climb aboard the fire engine. P This CD-ROM is accompanied by catchy songs and there is always a friendly character to explain what you can do. As soon as you leave an area they always say how sorry they are to see you go. P IJump Ahead Nursery 2000/I successfully creates a supportive and welcoming environment for learning. The on-screen activities will require some parental supervision at first but they are bound to help children (aged three to five years) learn to recognise sounds, shapes and lots of new colours. --IJustin Hunt/I P BJump Ahead 2000: Pre-School/BBR As soon as the bright pre-school train puffs its way out of the station, young children enter the magical world of Charlie the Cat and his friends. P Just move the mouse and Peter Polar bear starts swinging in a tree, Eleanor Elephant begins to skip and Charlie starts bouncing a ball. But the fun really starts when you go into the play school. P Here there are a whole host of educational activities to take part in. Cecil the Mouse clearly explains what is available and his instructions are easy to follow. If you click on the artist area, you can play an engaging game of numbers and all the time the friendly cartoon-like bear provides support and encouragement. P But the outstanding feature of IJump Ahead 2000: Preschool/I is the piano. Click on the piano and the rolls of music immediately unfold and the catchy songs begin. The quality of the singing is excellent and the words of the popular nursery rhymes appear at the same time--young children are guaranteed to love them. P This CD-ROM is full of incentives and you can even collect tickets if you do well to go on a special train ride. Packed with puzzles, high-quality songs and learning activities, this is probably one of the best examples of children's software aimed at this age group. --I Justin Hunt/I P BJump Ahead 2000: Toddlers/BBR IJumpStart Toddlers/I introduces young children to computer navigation and important skills that they can build upon in later years. Kids will have a great time playing the fun games and following the instructions given by colourful, interactive characters--and they won't even realise that the software is educational. P With the help of their friendly guide, Giggles the Gopher, toddlers perform activities and learn valuable mouse skills. For example, in the activity "Give the Dog a Bone", children must feed the dog by dragging items to his mouth with the mouse, while "Peek-a-Boo" requires children to move the mouse to uncover the item hidden behind the leaves. Other games help children recognise and identify letters, numbers, and shapes. A particularly pleasing activity allows kids to click on musical instruments to hear the sound they make. P IJumpStart Toddlers/I is an excellent example of how to introduce kids gently to the world of possibilities a computer can bring. --IAmazon.com/I

I have used the three CDs in this pack for two of my own children, and have taken them to a preschool to help other children learn computing skills. pJA toddlers is often useful for children older than the age range specified as it has some fun, simple games which help to develop mouse control. I often used it for 4 year-olds who had trouble in this area - the 'hide and seek' game rewards any movement of the mouse by revealing part of a picture, and children quickly learn to control the direction of the mouse to get a more accurate response. This CD in particular could be useful for children with special needs, eg who have difficulty with using their hands. pOnce children have some control over the mouse, they can use the mouse to give a dog his toys - improving their steering without yet needing to click. When they want to practise clicking, there are several simple games which will work even if they click the right button instead of the left one, or if they hit the keyboard instead. JA Preschool and Nursery both require children to have reasonable mouse control and clicking skills, and focus more on the content - ie asking them to listen to instructions and follow them, recognise shapes and colours, etc.. pI have used these programs with over 20 children and every single child enjoyed them, and was able to find something they could do, and build on their skills. My oldest, who is nearly 6, still enjoys playing the games on all three of these CDs!

3 out of 5 stars Well put together, adults will find the repetition annoying.   May 5, 2002

My three year old likes playing some of the games on the preschool CD. The Toddlers CD never held his attention too much. pIn its credit the graphics are beautfully done and the animation is smooth and well thought out. pBoth I and my 3 years old find the constant 'speeches' highly annoying. Between each round of a game the character gives a long explaination, while this is happening you cannot advance. My son gets very frustrated clicking without a reaction. The speeches are very long as well. pAdults will be driven mad by the repetition of phrases and the high pitched voices! be warned!pSome of the games are good and my son loves them. The rest are pretty but boring. They should have put more effort into the games and less into the graphic design.

4 out of 5 stars Our 3 year old son's favourite CD-ROM   January 29, 2001

We initially bought this CD by mistake as the information given by Amazon is for the Pre-school CD which is for a younger age group. However, our 3 year old loves this CD which although a bit cloyingly 'sweet' for adults obviously works for his age group. There are lots of different activities and each one has hidden features which keep up the interest even after the game has been mastered. It is certainly learning by stealth as my son finds it a lot of fun.

This CD-Rom contains seven exciting activities for toddlers to explore. My two year old son has had so much fun and learnt so much from the different activities such as: co-ordination, shapes, matching, repeating words. There are lots of areas to explore within each section. Some of the sections can be operated with a keyboard (pressing any keys) others require mouse co-ordination. This program taught my son very quickly how to use a mouse. A brilliant, colourful and fun program for new and young computer users.
