Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of images   January 1, 2006

This is undoubtedly a fantastic collection of clip art and graphics - hundreds of thousands of images in dozens of categories and mostly of a very high quality indeed. As this review is intended to assist other potential buyers, I'll just list the most important points. br /1. Every one of the 800,000 images is in the box - no need to download any - and spread across 34 CDs. (Fewer DVDs would have been nice, but I guess not everyone has a DVD drive). However, the collection comes with a 2000-page electronic catalogue on one of the discs, containing of all the clip art in the set, making it easy both to browse for a suitable image and to find the appropriate CD quickly. br /2. The collection comprises: br /Almost 200,000 "vector" images, mostly in colour, in Windows Metafile (WMF) format. These can be resized with no loss of quality. br /Over 35,000 "raster" images, as 300-DPI TIF files and mostly in colour. These cannot be scaled in the same way as vector images, but can be edited using programs such as Adobe Photoshop. br /Over 1,000 works of fine art in TIF format. br /About 50,000 classic images from the Dover art library, all in black white and provided in TIF format. br /Over 20,000 traditional images, all in black white and TIF format. br /Over 110,000 colour photographs, as 24-bit 72-DPI jpg files. br /Over 11,000 backgrounds, also as 24-bit 72-DPI jpg files, that can be placed behind text. br /Some 15,000 high-resolution (240 DPI) colour photographs. br /More than 5000 vector-based technical symbols, designed to be used in drawing and CAD applications such as CorelDraw. br /Web graphics - buttons, bullets, banners, animated gifs - designed to be used on web pages. br /About 1,000 photo clip art images - photographic images in JPG format on a white background so they can be used as clip art. br /3. The images are divided into over 500 topics and sub-topics (in corresponding folders), making it easier to find exactly what you're looking for. br /And my own impressions: br /Most of the images in this collection are of a very high quality indeed, although I do find the photographs rather uninspired and of a poorer quality - a bit like looking through someone's holiday snapshots. Some of the CDs appear not to have been pressed too well, as my CD drives have trouble in reading them (but always do eventually). (If you have about 20GB of available hard disk space then you can copy the entire collection to disk for quicker and easier access). The wallets the CDs come in are made of card, and it's difficult to get the CDs out without scratching them - I would recommend buying a proper CD storage wallet to keep them in good condition. The topics are very much geared towards the American user, with many being subdivided into "United States" and "Rest of World", but that's just a minor gripe. br /In summary, an excellent collection of images and definitely worth the money - if you need clip art, this is the only package you'll need.

5 out of 5 stars Nealy a million little pixies... err I mean piccies   September 16, 2004

From the point of view of my girlfriend, paying this amount of hard earned cash was foolish for 800,000 silly little pictures... This of course is true if they sit on the shelf and you don't use them... Quite the opposite is true however if you're a design student who needs images FAST and lots of them. This package saves nearly as many hours as images in design work. pIf you've got a spare couple of quid and want to blow the pants off your mates who either a) Have to draw the images themselves, or b) Put up with shabby Word clipate... buy it. Now.
