4 out of 5 stars shifting blame on each other   October 9, 2008
Amritlal D. Thanki
I have installed McAfee Security Suite 2008 on my Windows Vista Home Premium Dell Computer. I am getting Windows Security Allert that Virus Protection is not found on this Computer. When I reported this to McAfee, I was told to take some steps among which was to rename repository. Eventhough I was running as Administrator, I was not able to rename repository receiving "Access Denied". When I reported this to McAfee, I was told to go to Microsoft. When I reported this to Microsoft, I was told that they could not help me in third party software. This being McAfee product, McAfee should help me. But they do not. Each one is shifting responsibility on the other.

3 out of 5 stars Tracker cookies   September 11, 2008

If you want a scanner that finds tracker cookies then this is not for you - doesn't look for them so doesn't find them. Better to go for something like AVG or adaware which are free and do the job.

3 out of 5 stars OK but Mcafee tech team are useless and unhelpful. Siteadvisor pretty useless.   September 9, 2008
mica (london)
Mcafee is ok but could be a whole lot better.
My computer is still running at a good speed but the siteadvisor is pretty useless as it keeps stopping and highlighting previous safe sites like 'google' and 'bbc' as dangerous (red) or unchecked (grey).

I do not trust the siteadvisor 100&, there are some strange sites that Mcafee has green ticked like a site which is suppose to show short clips and information on American programmes like 'Prison break' but when you click on the site there's hardcore porn on the home page.
I emailed Mcafee and they responded quickly saying they scan sites for spyware, adware and viruses not pornographic material.
My mcafee says a particular gaming site is safe (green tick) but my friends Mcafee says the site is dangerous (red cross)

I've had to uninstall and reinstall Mcafee internet security suite 3 times in 6 weeks as the siteadvisor shuts down and the first week i switched on broadband i got a malicious virus and was told that the wrong sec suite had been sent to me by SKY Broadband.

McAfee's technical support is AWFUL. You can only contact them during office hours on the phone or you can connect live to tech support who are just as useless. I phoned them 3 times in 2 days and the 1st time they cut my call off, I guess because they couldnt answer my question.
They keep apologising instead of answering my questions or helping me.
I clearly told them that I was having trouble downloading siteadvisor and i wasted 20 minutes on the internet with a tech rep who told me to install another security suite and then realised that i already had a suite (which i told her at the beginning of the call). In the end i had to uninstall my security suite and reinstall it.

There are advance features which can improve the security of your PC but unfortunately there is no manual to help you understand it and the Mcafee tech team have no clue. All the tech team are good for is incouraging you to spend more money by upgrading your siteadvisor or sec suite.

Once you have Mcafee you cannot use it with any other malware, spyware and adware removal programs. I was hoping to download Spybot but Mcafee, Sky and even Microsoft said Mcafee is a stand alone security program which shuts down when it detects a "rival" program. A couple forums on the internet confirm that.
When you install Mcafee Windows Defender and Firewall turn off.
If you uninstall Mcafee, which is easier than removing Norton (which came pre-installed on my pc) windows defender and firewall switch on automatically.

I've noticed that the scheduled scan does not scan on time so i run manual scans, along with microsoft windows malicious software removal tool.

I've heard there are better FREE security suites out there such as 'Avast'. I've heard that 'Kaspersky' is excellent.
I will keep Mcafee until i can find something better.

All in all Mcafee comes free with sky or you can buy it on Amazon for a reasonable price. It's a pretty good security suite but there must be better ones on the market.
The customer service lets Mcafee down greatly.

3 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the tin, but oh so slow   August 18, 2008
J A C Corbett (Blackheath, London, UK)
A bog standard internet security suite that so far shows few chinks in its armoury of defences. What I will say, however, is that it slows down the PC it is used on far more than the old version of Norton that it replaced. Maybe this is down to the machine it is on and its fairly low-spec (it is only 3 years old), but its performance has deteriorated considerably since its installation.
