3 out of 5 stars Basic - but good value   September 9, 2008

I'm certainly no expert but I have flown a few electric helicopters so I have some idea of their capability. The Bladez is very basic, as a radio controlled model; but compared to many of the helicopter toys around now this little model flies well. With relatively little effort the total beginner should be able to keep the Bladez in the air, given a reasonable space (beginners should avoid living rooms and the like until they can manage a reasonable hover). I'd say this little effort might cover say a weekend, taking in 10-15 'flights'. br /Aside from ease-of-flying it's important to consider durability too. And the Bladez does very well on that front, with a good solid airframe which struck me as a surprisingly good build quality. Another nice feature of the heli itself is a built in lithium polymer (LiPo) battery, which is charged from the included balancing charger. br /As is often the case with these budget-end electric helis, it's the transmitter that really lets the whole little outfit down. It's pretty ropey and very toy-like. Having said that however, it does the job and and should prove robust enough if handled reasonably. br /It's important to understand that the 3-dimensional control that this heli is capable of is fairly limited (the 'more serious' models in this class have '4-dimensional' control)' despite the claims on the box of 'precision' control. My piloting skills are pretty basic but I did find that it was pretty much impossible to fly a nice clean, level circuit. The lack of the additional level of control that more sophisticated models have, (e.g EFlite CX2), makes it very difficult to achieve clean straight and level flight. Hovering, backwards and forwards flight are straightforward enough and you can follow a sort-of-circuit left and rightwards. The upshot of this is that it makes for a slightly gentler learning curve for the total novice, but will be of little interest when you are ready to start practising forward flight. br /Overall I would say this little outfit is good value for the complete newcomer and a good buy if want to try your hand at RC helis without forking out 100+. And if you do get to the stage where you are getting frustrated at the Bladezs' lack of cooperation in forward level circuit flight then you'll be ready to pay the 100+ for a full-house electric heli and enjoy it a lot more as you'll be able to handle it reasonably well, avoiding a lot of the frustration that can go with learning to control these little beasts.

Ive had this little beast for a few months now and im still not bored of it! I think this toy has great control because i find that most indoor rc heli's dont really tend to go foward but this heli goes like a bullet in any direction, foward, backwards left and right. I have crashed this heli into many trees and it fell from about 15 meters and it still works as it did on the first day i got it. Only problem with this toy is that the battery life is a bit short because a 30-35 min charge gives you around 8 mins flying time but thats enough for me, gives me a break from chasing birds. Overall it is well worth its money, it's deffinatly top of its cheap rival rc helis.
