Art from Kaos October 15, 2008 N. Cannon (UK, London) For those of us who are not blessed with a vast array of synths, digital delays, samplers, drum machines etc the KAoSsilator is a fantastic piece of intuitive kit that enables you to whip up some full on funky grooves and then freestyle over the top, or create so truly avantguarde drones, loops and clicks. or drum and bass kaos or rave loops.. you get the idea. br /This is not just some kids toy, this has all the the best cherry picked sounds from the Korg database, synths, fat analogue trouser rippers, strings, sound fx, drones etc... in fact there are 100 sounds all easily manipulated by tapping or dragging your fingers across the pad thru the X/Y co-ords. br /I've had this a few hours and already I'm knocking out some truly evil beats and grooves off the cuff on the fly, your only limit is your imagination, and for a measly 100 this little box of delights is fantastic value. br /Rig this up with the Kaos pad and you're looking at some full on immersive instant sound mash-up. br /The Kaossilator isn't just for dance heads, no siree, dip in, you will not be disappointed! br /10/10. br /Update....... br /I've now had the Kaossilator for 3 weeks now, and while 100 sounds may seem a little limited, it's what you do with them that will open up new dimensions, it's really easy to do trancey arpeggiated grooves, this may not be wholly you cup of tea, but if you delve deeper you will be able to create some skittering glitche like hip hop beats that really sound great. br /Mess around with the arpeggiator setting while in the drums section and there's 50 more subtle nuanced patterns that will appear, and if you tap/slide across the x/y pad while recording, you can layer up some truly unique beats in now time at all. br /You can also create scratching like sounds, vinyl pops and scratch like sounds as well, you just have to dig deep and use your imagination. br / Everytime I turn the Kaossilator on I discover new things! I look forward to the Kaossilator equivalent of the KP3 coming out in the future with added extra's that are missing from this version, like the ability to save loops on to a memory stick like device, maybe multiple loops would be a good idea? With the advanced technology available these days, there surely must be a bigger better version of the Kaossilator in the pipeline at Korg? br /For now tho' this will do!
Urmazing! July 23, 2008 Mr. D. Clark (lincolnshire, UK) This is a very nifty bit of kit, its kind of annoying that you cant erase each individual loop as you go along but you quickly get over it. br /within 20 minutes of opening the box i was mixing phat choons (im so urban!), i was worried all the talk of appregio gates and loops and chorus synths would be confusing but it takes no time at all to pick up. br /even though i have a wide knowledge of music i could confidently say that a n00b could pick this up and within minutes look like a master...and i can hook it up to garageband! sweeet! br /in short a vert versatile little box br /domx
So fun February 6, 2008 R. Dekoch 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are plenty of limitations: can't save recorded tracks on the device, no midi, can't selectivley delete layers, no way to create or download additional sounds. br / br /Having said all this, it's so much fun and it sounds great. It's hard to be precise when creating tracks, but you can create some great grooves for sure. Everyone I showed it to wanted to get one. I'm sure I'll be giving this as a gift at some point. It's much cheaper than the Tenori On or Monome and much easier to come by.
