Very Satisfied September 13, 2008 M. R. Owens (Berkshire, U.K.) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I spent a great deal of time researching 37 inch full HD Lcd's and finally settled on this Toshiba 37XV505D (same spec as the 503D but slightly different cosmetically). For the price this TV is outstanding value. Feed a decent quality signal in this and the results are very, very good. Setting up the TV for Freeview is simple and takes a couple of minutes. The SD quality on Freewview is very good, watching CBeebies on chanel 71 with my grandchildren shows just how good this TV is. Sky+ SD quality is also good especially the sport channels. Hooking this up to SKY HD is something I am looking forward to. It does take a bit of time to get the picture set up to your preference but its well worth it. Dont leave it set on the default Dynamic-User settings, they are way over the top. The sound is not the best but its not that bad. There is plenty of volume there but the vocals sound a bit muffled for want of a better word. I was dissapointed in that the Digital Optical output is only from the DTV (Freeview) Source. I have a Toshiba HD EP30 Dvd hooked up to this and the full HD picture is breathtaking. This set was recently given a best buy in one of the TV review magazines which meant that demand has increased for this unit. If you buy this you will not be dissapointed.
Excellent LCD TV July 28, 2008 Mr. C. Butler (Tyne & Wear) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
I've just purchased this TV combined with a Toshiba HDMI up-scaling DVD player. I noticed the difference immediately on both the freeview and the DVD playback. Excellent picture, excellent sound. Just need to get Sky HD or Freesat now to make the most of the quality of the TV. Having searched the internet and high street shops for quite some time, I found this to be the best priced for the spec of the TV.
Nice Tv - Caution freeview signal strength! July 26, 2008 Sj Gj Shepperd (South West England) 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
Nice TV, quite easy to set up, good picture and sound. Only drawback is the freeview. Signal strength in my area is poor on Mux 2 (most ITV/C4/E4 channels) with a digital TV this means picture and sound problems. The Freeview in the TV does not seem to be able to compensate for this poor siganl, where as the standalone freeview boxes can. I was disappointed with this, as I had hoped to reduce the number of "boxes" under/around the TV. Shame
Gem of a TV July 23, 2008 Keith (Cambs) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
Received my new TV last week and its a stunner. Having previously had a high end 32" CRT and been disappointed by earlier LCD TV's I was expecting to find the picture on standard resolution lacking. How wrong can you be. The device does an excellent job of upscaling PAL from freeview and Sky, the colours are excellent and the blacks are very acceptable. At 1080p the quality from Bluray is superb, the level of detail is amazing and there was no sign of the telecine judder earlier PC's showed. The only slight quibble is with the sound. With just the PC Speakers its a bit thin BUT its has an output for a subwoofer which makes a big difference. Personally I have a good 5.1 AV amp and speakers so its not an issue
