5 out of 5 stars Very Good DVD Player (Plays Region 1 too)   September 18, 2008

Highly recommended for anyone wanting a uncomplicated great quality DVD Player. The up scaling is extremely good, and it is already Multi-Region. Mine plays Region 2 as well as Region 1 discs. There is unfortunately one word of caution however this doesn't affect the product's rating:
This machine is sold by Pixmania and they are based in France. The machine therefore does not come with an English Manual or English Plug. They don't even provide an adapter, so if you do buy this you will have to replace the plug with a UK one.
For the price though, a UK model will set you back about 30 more on Play.com, so it's still worth while!

4 out of 5 stars Great DVD but be aware of a few points   September 15, 2008

Just to add two points to the reviews on this DVD. It is an excellent DVD for the price but:

It comes with four instruction booklets, none of them are in English. You can download the instructions off the internet, but if you're buying this for someone who may not have internet access be aware of this.

It comes with HDMI 'off'. Ie if you buy an HDMI cable, be aware you have to go into the controls of the DVD (which you need the instructions to do) and set it to 'on', otherwise it won't work. It works fine with SCART if you have those and don't want to spend on an HDMI cable.

5 out of 5 stars Still remarkable at twice the price point   July 1, 2008

This piece of technology is a slim, unobtrusive addition to your TV stand that will truly transform your DVD collection. Accepting that the price difference of Blue R and ordinary DVDs remains significant AND the price of a BR player is still high, this upscaler provides a meaningful compromise. Only the most discerning movie watcher will notice the BR/Upscaled DVD differences. Until the prices of BR technology reduces this is an excellent product at 2 or 3 times the price point. Removing the region code is a simple task, although be very careful regarding sites which offer codes which do not work. And finally, for the best results do use a full 1080p TV. While very capable on lower specifications, the higher quality is worth the experience.

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended player   March 30, 2008

I sold my xbox 360 HD player as soon as i heard that HD had lost the format war, no big deal for me as i only had a couple of HD films anyway, i now needed a decent player to hook up to my 40" Bravia, i could have gone the whole hog and gone for a blu-ray player, but i dont really watch enough DVD's to warrant the cost, so went for, in my opinion, the next best thing, an upscaling DVD player, i have to say, the picture quality via HDMI is EXCELLENT, after trying a few DVD's i was amazed at how good the picture was that this player puts out, if like me, your not quite ready to jump on the Blu-ray band wagon, you cant go far wrong with this player for 70.00

5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised   January 27, 2008

My sister bought me this item for christmas to go with my new 1080p samsunsg 40" LCD, and I must say I was surprised at the level of improvement over my previous toshiba progressive scan dvd player, I compared this player with my brothers toshiba hddvd player and my old sddvd player using the Transformers movie (both formats) on boxing day and the gap between sd, upscaling and hddvd were consistent and clearly noticeable from one to the next, even to my missus' eye who isn't normally interested in type of stuff. All in all well worth it just to refresh your dvd collection til the bluray hddvd nonsense is resolved.

It also displays digital pictures beautifully from disc.
