The best version of the book available -- but not out on DVD!!! November 7, 2008

I am a great fan of the book which has wonderful dramatic tension. This film version is very true to the orginal plot and language, and has an all-star cast who all give fantastic performances. Charlton Heston, manages to supress his american accent for the role of L J Silver, and Oliver Reed as Billy Bones is inspired casting. Chrisitan Bale is a wonderful child actor as anyone will know who has seen Empire of the Sun. Here he is perfectly cast as Jim. Supporting roles are all good, I think Christopher Lee is blind Pew, and much of it is filmed on location at fantastic Caribbean locations. br / br /I am reading the book to my son at the moment and I find it really frustrating that this film version, which is the truest to the book by a long way, is not available on DVD. Surely it can only be a matter of time. We used to have the VHS tape, but I got rid of it when we dumped the VHS player for obvious reasons. It would be great to be able to show him the setting and the characters on screen, but I will not compromise with the other versions. br / br /
