4 out of 5 stars Shouty instructor but pretty pictures and is challenging to do.   August 28, 2008
Hippychick (London-ish)
This is a useful DVD to buy if you have limited space in your living room as everything is "on the spot".
Something to say is that if you use weights for the resistance workout start with small ones or you will end up crippled!!! You can always increase the weight later if it starts feeling too easy.

This is a good mid-challenge DVD, it will get you sweaty and feeling worked out, as long as you aren't put off by Mr Shouty the instructor being, well, a bit shouty.

4 out of 5 stars Good but not as challenging as Ultimate Challenge!!   April 5, 2008

I bought this DVD as I love Ultimate Challenge and do it regularly even after 18 months of owning it. I am not quite as keen on Maximum Impact. The music and the annoying, smiley, very pleased with himself man in the background are fairly off putting, but other than that it is still a good workout. It has alot of boxing moves and you can feel your arms and shoulders working, and the lunges and squats are great for the thighs and bum. I missed the high-impact aerobic/running sections that were in Ultimate Challenge, but this keeps a variety to my workouts. I love the shouty instructor and I agree that you can see Nell is super-fit and enjoys working out. Still a very good DVD, far better than the usual 'look how much weight I lost in a month' celeb DVDs. I would buy it again.

4 out of 5 stars Another cracker from Nell and Liam   March 24, 2008

This is, in my opinion, the least challenging of all of Nell's workouts. It is not easy by any means - you still work up a great sweat - and the holding squats are killers. But compared to Peak and Ultimate, I find the full workout flies by, (usually cos I am fascinated by the guy behind Nell who is in a little world of his own.)

I found Peak Energy to be great for the upper body - it really works your deltoids and shoulders - and Ultimate Challenge better for your hips and thighs, with lots of emphasis again on wide and narrow holding squats. Both are the closest workouts I have found to going for a run, without stepping outside or getting on the treadmill.

All are no nonsense, 'does what it says on the tin' workouts which are easy to follow, with no complicated dance moves or grapevines.

Do what I did and get all three for a complete body workout!

4 out of 5 stars Good all rounder   February 20, 2008

I like Nell's DVD's for all of the reasons others have stated. They do what they say on the tin without any fuss or flouncing around. Whilst some of the other Nell DVD's can be a bit boring (Cardio, core and stretch is horrendously repetitive!) this one is quite varied.

After the warm up there's an interval training section which lasts about 40 mins. It's not particularly high intensity but for fat burning that's not necessarily what you need anyway. It's the usual nell jogging and jumping interspersed with squats/lunges punches so you stay amused. I have no idea how she completes the squats towards the end, my legs physically collapse part way through!

Next are the two toning sections. The first one is for the arms and is basically marching whilst lifting the arms using weights. The next is bums (another absolute killer) and tums (not so tough) followed by press ups and stretches.

It really is an all over workout and is medium intensity whilst remaining tough. All in all very good!

4 out of 5 stars Nell is the best :0)   January 20, 2008

I love Nell... unlike in other 'celeb' workouts, in this one, she is actually sweating her a*se off - and you can tell that she's fit, not just skinny.

As others have commented, this is a routine with zero dance moves that's done more or less on the spot. For me, this is great. Not only does my living room not resemble a dance studio (as other dvds seem to presume it does), but it also means I can focus on working really hard and not fannying around with stupid and useless dance steps.

And although it's a tough work-out, its simplicity means you can add more intensity as you get fitter. I did lower impact moves, or left out the arm movements etc for a long time. Because it's a simple workout it's easy to modify to your fitness level.

Lastly, unlike many other workout dvds this one works out your upper body as well as your thighs and bum - no more bingo wings!
