Here's my girl, Leia. She'll be 14 this March. She's aged a lot lately. Every week there's a new struggle, but we adjust to make things best for her. She's loved very much.

She still looks bright in the face..That's a good sign..

Re: Mans Best Friend: pics

I've been boarding dogs for 12 years, but I've never had a dog of my own since I was a boy!..
A couple of months ago I decided it was time..particularly since I'm now winding down the dog boarding business..

He's a large dog and can run VERY fast..(that's a clue as to what breed of dog he is) and when I can get him to stand still, I'll get a photo of him!! LOL

Greyhound?

Spot on..He's a rescued dog from a racing kennel that was going to put him down..
There's a big movement here to rescue greyhounds that would have been put down in the past!..They are now farmed out to families to care for them..

Re: Mans Best Friend: pics

How are they as pets? Are they able to fit in a family given all they have done is race?

Re: Mans Best Friend: pics

They make incredible pets..Very placid..want to be with you constantly..very intelligent..and very obedient..
You would think that a Greyhound would need to run a lot and would need a huge backyard to run..Quite the contrary!
My fella runs around for a few minutes and then crashes on the living room floor and sleeps for the rest of the day..LOL!!
They have a short burst and that's it!!..

Re: Mans Best Friend: pics

Yup! And a rescue worker once told me it's also a good idea not to let them off-leash. What apparently happens if they sense "prey" is that they'll chase it (obvious) while becoming blind to the normal landmarks dogs set up like breadcrumbs to find their way back (not so obvious). IOW, they run with blinders on and do it so quickly that they don't know where they are when they stop! Not sure if that's true, but it sounds reasonable. In any case, it's a good idea to get her chipped.

.
I try to be as good as my dog thinks I am

Re: Mans Best Friend: pics

Yes you're right..The Rescue Centre said the same thing that they will just run and run if you let them off the lead..They have no idea where they are and if they get out of your sight, you may never see them again..

I had a situation that happened the other day..I went to get something out of the back door of my station wagon and "Ikey" jumped over the back seat and out the door and took off down the road!
I yelled at him to stop and come back and fortunately he did before he got too far away..

After that episode I now have a dog tag on him with my phone number on it..if it should ever happen again..
