Re: CD Jukeboxes and McCain's Music Library

I've used the Music Library for several years with a variety of Mac laptops, most recently a MacBook Air.
Sadly, my SAVR2 Adapter has died - it's firmware crashed, which has happened in the past and produces symptoms similar to those described in this thread - and I haven't been able to find a source for a replacement.

Does anyone know where to buy a new SAVR2?

Does any know any other way to control a Sony CDP-CX355 changer with the Music Library?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!

Re: CD Jukeboxes and McCain's Music Library

Hi,

I have been using Music Library for some years with an SAVR and a Sony 400 CD changer. I still have it running on XP but desperately need to upgrade it to Windows 7. However, I can't seem to find the original installation and without that I cannot reinstall ML. I should be grateful if you could email me a copy of the software. I am sure that I can find some method of proving that I originally paid for even if it is just an email from Bill. Thanks hopefully.

Re: CD Jukeboxes and McCain's Music Library

I just thought that I would post an update for anyone else trying to retain their CD jukeboxes and control them using Bill McCain's Music Library.

I got forced to upgrade my music player computer to Windows 7 last year because most software upgrades were unable to be installed on XP. After a lot of messing I finally managed to get ML to work under Windows 7. The key things are:

ML does not work with later versions of Java than JRE7 so you need to install JRE7 which can comfortably sit alongside the latest version.
Install ML as normal but edit the shortcut so that it calls JRE7 rather than the latest version.
Then go to compatibility and select compatibility mode for Windows XP.

Low and behold ML now works perfectly under Windows 7.

That was all last year. Since then I have setup Plex Media Server to control all my media. I won't go into all the detail but essentially there are too many bugs in the Plex player under Windows 7 32 bit to the extent that it constantly loses the player as a cast device and can't find it again. So I upgraded to Windows 10 on a 64 bit machine where there is a specific app to play media. I ripped all my CDs (time consuming!) and now mainly use Plex to play my music. However, Plex does not support gapless playback which is really annoying with many albums, particularly nearly all Pink Floyd albums. Do I tried to setup ML exactly as before to play the original CDs.

Unfortunately Windows 10 64 bit does not support a compatibility mode for XP, Vista is the oldest it supports and I could not get ML to run in Vista compatibility mode. After much searching I eventually accepted that I would need to install a Windows XP virtual machine under Windows 10 and run ML in that.

I installed VMware for the virtual machine, XP underneath it (make sure it is SP3), JRE7 in the XP Virtual Machine and allocated the serial device for the SAVR to the VM. Hey presto it all works. Additionally there is Unity mode in VMware so that when you have installed all this and set Unity mode you can run ML just as if it is an app under Windows 10.

I just thought it might be useful to someone if I shared this. I am happy to provide further info for anyone who needs it, just PM me.

Re: CD Jukeboxes and McCain's Music Library

Hello, dear tel19, I am from Germany and have a NSM 3101 CD-Changer, which is supported by William Mc Cains software "Music Library 2.5". I cannot get this software anywere, because Mr. Mc Caine passed away and it seems that nobody is there to continue his business. Are you able to send me a copy of "Music Library 2.5", I would like to pay for your trouble you would have with such a copy for me. You will make me very happy if you do this for me! My English is not very perfect, please forgive me for that.
Greetings from Germany
