Re: Newb help.

For a 120" screen you can go with Sintra or Komatex--same thing, different brands--which can be found at sign shops. Should be around $75... It may need to be painted. The Sintra I've used hot spotted severely, but it's a great substrate for paint.

Re: Newb help.

Just bit the bullet and went to best buy and got the Epson powerlite 3020 for $1349 because they price match. Found one online for that price and they changed the price. No questions asked. Now it's time to get the hdmi cable, screen, and hanger bracket.

Re: Newb help.

If I went with the sintra and painted it white with SW soothing white (a neutral grey that reflects the whole spectrum evenly and a gain about 1). What size board would I need? Here is he spec sheet for it. I've read about 2.35:1 but I think mine is just 16.9:1, what's the difference? Or is mine just set up for 16.9:1. The is for he help so far.

If you are rolling, 2 is suggested. If you are spraying, 6 is suggested.

Re: Newb help.

nickm, are you planning to calibrate your projector or not?

Keep in my mind that 3020 calibrated outputs ~800 lumens. So, the gray shade, gain and size of the screen are crucial in order to have a well balanced image. Furthermore, you have to consider the fact that if you are going to calibrate it even in 3D mode you are going to loose at least 70% more of luminosity due to glasses.

Re: Newb help.

I will calibrate it, 3d isn't really a concern. I probably won't use that feature very often. I am planning a 120 inch diagonal screen with a 1.0 gain, the material will be sintra and painted it white with SW soothing white (a neutral grey that reflects the whole spectrum even. I read that in the forums here. I have the DVE HD basic disc, I hope this one works. If not which would you recommend? Thanks

Personally, i use the avsforum patterns in .mp4 format and i am quite happy with them, but i 'm sure that DVE HD will cover well enough your calibration needs.

Sorry, but i don't recall SW soothing white. Can you tell us the RGB values?

Re: Newb help.

Well after measuring the wall a 120" screen will be to big so I will drop down to a 110" screen which will be 95" wide by 54" in height. I'll get back with the rgb for you.
