Harpmaker,

thank you for the info. I have found a local supply of sintra as well so i can paint than and test that more.

does anyone think i need to work about gain of the pain/screen a whole lot or should i concentrate more on the right grey?
Concentrate on the right gray for your needs. Gain is vastly overplayed when it comes to projector screens and more often than not causes it's own problems in viewing the projected image. The higher the gain of a screen is over it's "flat finish" color the greater the problems become. We have an excellent Sticky thread on gain, but to put it in a nutshell the higher the gain is compared to the same color in a flat finish the smaller the viewing cone is and the more likely hot spotting will occur. Also, it is practically impossible to roll on high gain mixes without leaving roller marks and such that WILL show up when using the screen.

Re: wall paint

I hope this isn't hijacking but...

My HT will be in my main living space so black or even dark-colored walls aren't desirable. I'll be installing pull-down black material (felt or velvet, perhaps) on either side of the screen that I can raise when not needed. I realize this isn't optimal but at least my living room won't look like it's made of charcoal.

Nah... not at all. In a dedicated HT it's the perfect option. It just doesn't work well in a main living room. I'd get pretty depressed if my main living space was painted all black.
